Definition: it is the blueprint of case management. Putting in sequence
the dental treatment procedures for the patient management.
Defentive Rx :
Rx which it directed at the cause of the patient's symptoms rather
than the symptoms themselves.
Symptomatic Rx:
Rx directed at relief of symptoms irrespective of their causes.
Aim of Rx Plan
Total Rx that coordination of all treatment procedures for the purpose
of creating a well functioning dentition in a healthy peridontium and
oral environment.
Objective:
To achieve and maintain the health of the masticatory apparatus.
Rationale:
The masticatory apparatus works as a unit. If part is affected by a
diseased it affects other parts as well.
Factors to be considered:
1- Diagnosis and prognosis.
2- Patient's degree of cooperation.
3- Patient's medical history. (medically compromised patients need
modifications of the Rx plan.
4- Patient's own wishes.
5-Cost and estimated time (e.g. to long time should be spend with CVS,
epileptic and emotionally disturbed patients)
Rx Plan Formulation:
Depends on both clinician experience, knowledge and competence.
Nature and extent of Rx plan facilitates available itemized according
to the components of the diagnostic summery.
Rx plan sequence:
Preliminarily Phase
Phase I Therapy (Etiotropic Phase)
Phase II Therapy (Surgical Phase)
Phase III Therapy (Restorative Phase)
Phase IV Therapy (Maintenance Phase)
Preliminary Phase
Rx of emergencies.
( Rx of acute infection, oral ulceration, soft and hard tissue tumors,
muscle spasm and joint pain)
Extraction of hopless teeth.
Phase I Therapy:
Plaque and diet control instructions.
Scaling and root planning.
Correction of restorations, teeth on prosthetic irritation factors,
excavation of caries and restorations. (temporary or final depending on
tooth prognosis and caries location)
Starting RCT
Occlusal Therapy and minor ortho Rx
Phase II Therapy:
Periodontal Surgery.
Root Canal Rx.
Phase III Therapy:
Final restorations.
Fixed and removable prosthodontics.
( also we continue the ortho Rx)
Phase IV Therapy:
Periodic recalls and check up. (Plaque and calculus,gingival
conditions, caries,restorations and appliances, mobility, soft and hard
tissue pathology)
Defentive Rx plan Vs Initial Rx Plan:
Depends on :
-Tissue response.
-Patient cooperation.
