DHS/Sugar Creek Gardeners:

We will have a garden work day this Saturday, February 21st at Sugar Creek from 9:30-12:00.  We were able to move the three herb beds and build a community garden bed last Saturday.  We will continue to make the beds and plant in the bed we completed.  I will not be there, but I know Moira, Diane and others plan to go.

Have fun!

Tamara

Wow I was SO impressed by the work you all did last week; thanks for Moira's photo's of all the worker bees.
I am looking forward to getting back to the site this Saturday. I hope that my crooked lines for bedding offered some kind of guideline.  You all were very patient with me as an "apprentice"; thank you.
Tamara, let me know if there are specific needs and I"ll try to make sure we are covered.

Happy Gardening Soon
Kelley

Gardeners

I will arrive late to work day, but wanted you to have the plans I've worked on.
I'm attaching both. They are VERY variable because of the unknown removal of the concrete ( I've planned for it remaining there) and the ?? questionable property line status to the left, looking at the plot from bottom of hill.

I may run by to drop off a copy before I return if anyone is there early. Very chilly.

best
Kelley

PS I like vertical beds option best. Less wasted space. Sunlight still an unknown factor which would
greatly effect orientation and most efficient use of space.

Moira, everybody: Thanks for all the hard work on the garden this am. Our volunteers really helped us advance progress, and I am optimistic that Spring gardening is just weeks away.

Thank you for being patient with me, as I learn about laying out beds and measuring spaces. You all have been very supportive in this gardener's "beginner" project, and I can only hope that Mother Nature agrees with this orientation.
I've revised the plan, based on our work today: see attachment with revision.

I'm also including a CAD drawing that a friend of mine conducted: with horizontal bed orientation. It includes two of our MG beds which measure 4x12. This is a FYI only: I"m not suggesting that we move all the beds we set up today. This is just something to consider and keep in the "library". We'll know more when we know what our sunlight situation as the seasons change.

Please don't hesitate to voice an opinion over any of this. Thanks, Kelley

wow, I'm impressed to see the possibility of getting so many plots into that space, in 1st option. Nice work on the plan, Kelley! I'm sorry I can't be there to join you all today (again), but at least the weather seems to be improving, and it looks better than the forecast a day or two ago:  no rain yet, warming temps, if slowly from a chilly start, throughout the day today.

I really look forward to joining you all there for a work day in the next few weeks!
