I recently went to work for myself full-time, and while I'm an IT geek by trade, my main passion is a sort of place where sustainability and art intersect.  I spoke with Eric QL last summer about DHMN, and recently have been following the google-group, however it seems like the majority of the group's focus is on programming and building techie equipment.  I'm just curious if my form of geekdom would be an asset to the group.  Also, I was thinking about attending either a session or a lunch - which would be better in order to talk with members about what the group's focus is and where/if I would fit into that?

Thanks all!

Please yes!

I am interested in all forms of "makery".

I know there are other sustainable + art <3 interested persons in the
group already.

Let's all learn from each other.

The make meetups offer a little bit of tablespace to work on projects
and discuss ideas.

The lunches are necessarily social and conversant.

The org meetings (try) to be more focused on the "meta" such as growing
participation, raising funds, funding projects, etc.

Anyone is welcome to all events.

YES TO ART!

:)  Unfortunately, DHMN meetings have a 100% conflict with other things I do, so I can't make meetings on Sun/Tue/Thu/Fri.  But I'd be very happy to sit down some other time.

Me = photography & music & shiny things in general.

Diversity of interests makes us stronger.  If I showed up and people only wanted to talk about coding, I probably wouldn't have stayed with the group.

Show up to any of the meetings and say hi!  I think you'll be surprised at the amount of interest created when you talk about your own projects.  In my experience everyone in the group likes to hear about what others are doing.

Perhaps the lunch meeting would be best - it's more casual and people are not as absorbed in their own projects.  If I'm there I'd love to have a chat about sustainability with you.

I agree the Friday lunch meeting would be a good place to jump in. I hope you can make it.

To confirm - is the Friday lunch THIS Friday (8/10) at 11:30?  And if so, what location this month?

Thanks!

Yes, this Friday. Although it starts at 11:30, most people don't show up until around noon since it's their lunch break.

How will I know who is part of the DHMN?  You'll know me as I'll be the girl looking lost ;)

When you walk in the main entrance, there are several long rows of tables to your left. We always occupy the third row from the entrance.
