A New North tech community connection I've not pursued, thus far, but probably should, is Web920, http://web920.com/home.

For those DHMN members who aren't already familiar with Web414, http://web414.com/, it's a Milwaukee area community which, I think, resulted from or at least became much more active from the first BarCampMilwaukee. Pete P was one of the Web414 founders, and is a DHMN mailing list member.

I'd call Pete a DHMN member, but I don't know if he wants to use that label/tag  :)  I'll let him speak up on that matter... Which brings up a point which we haven't really discussed, re whether there are any qualifiers to be considered/called a DHMN member, or whether we should call everyone who registers for an account on dhmn-di...@googlegroups.com or dhmn.net a DHMN member.

Anyway, back to Web920. I don't know if Web920 is a northeast Wisconsin spinoff or clone of Web414 (like Web608, http://www.web608.org/, and Web 715, http://web715.com/ are) or if Web920 was set up with no connection to or relationship to Web414.

The Web920 website is much less developed than Web414 or 608. I submitted a contact form (hate their CAPTCHA...) on the 920 website -- will let you know what, if any, reply I get. Googling for them gave a few hits, and it appears they'll have a meeting at Titletown Brewing in Green Bay on Feb 21, http://www.meetup.com/gbwebdevdesign/calendar/16109696/, in case any DHMN members can make it to that to meeting to build some new northeast Wisconsin tech community connections. It appears Elliot Christenson, Freelance Web Consultant at Shopko Green Bay is one of the group's organizers/active members in case anyone knows him. Other Google hits were:

Web920's focus seems to lean heavily toward the Green Bay area. After DHMN goes to one or two of their meetings and get a better sense of what their vision and interests are, DHMN can discuss and consider the value of establishing a WebFoxValley corollary of Web414 (because of tendency of people to not drive 30 to 50 miles for a monthly meeting) or whether it would be better to just promote and participate in Web920 meetings in GB, or maybe launch monthly Web920 affiliate meetings in the Fox Valley.

Web414 grew out of the "Milwaukee Web Design Meetup" but didn't become officially known as "Web414" until after the 1st BarCampMilwaukee...

Web920 (and all the others) were inspired by Web414, but each one is independent, and does it's own thing. I'm trying to think of who does the 920 group... it's someone who works at greenbaynet.com I think...

You can call me a "Friend of DHMN" if you'd like. :)  I probably won't meet up with you guys that much due to where I live... although really, I tend to live on the Internet.

Pete -- hope you didn't take my comment as meaning in the least little bit that you are not considered a DHMN member if you want to accept that moniker. DHMN means something different to everyone so far, although the tagline effort Erin is spearheading will, I hope, bring some cohesiveness to a common vision, at least for the early stages of DHMN. To me, the D (distributed) part of DHMN means both distributed responsibility for everything that happens within the group (participant-driven, not hierachal organizational structure-driven) and distributed geographical membership. The "flat world" or "Snowcrash" remote collaboration concepts mean DHMN should have both active members and potential 'resource people' who are geographically remote from the Appleton/Fox Valley/Northeast Wisconsin/Wisconsin area.

So if you see value in being a DHMN member, we'd be honored for you to call yourself a member of the DHMN!

Thanks for  the background on Web414 and the related Webxxx's...

If I lived closer to you guys, I'd try to be involved in all your events & shenanigans... but for now, I'll involve myself via the great Internet and always try to keep DHMN in the loop for things like MilwaukeeDevHouse, BarCamp, etc... There's great value in us tying together these different networks... a network of networks if you will. :)
