Hey Everyone,
I am looking to integrate a Carputer into my vehicle. I know that I heard someone mention that they were working on building one a while back in an organizational meeting. I just wanted to throw this out to everyone to see what kind of ideas/feedback I might get.
My goal is to have a hands-free / eyes-free setup using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for control and some sort of screen reader designed for blind users. I will also have a touchscreen which will probably be used mostly for launching applications and controls for multimedia applications.
I have had a similar setup in the past using an HP Touchsmart tablet (with police car style mount), Windows Vista / 7, Dragon 10.1 Pro and JAWS screen reader. So I have a pretty good idea of how to make all of the software work together.
Here is what I have and what I have been thinking so far…
I already have everything listed below except the touchscreen.
Vehicle:
2010 Dodge Grand Caravan
· Replace factory stereo with 7” touch screen
· Use aftermarket single DIN stereo relocated to current storage cubby (DVD player in higher models)
· Place Carputer in the front Stow 'n Go seat storage area (lots of room)
Hardware:
Possible Computer (I have others if this one does not work)
· HP Probook 4530s with non-working screen due to being dropped, also power button is currently stuck
· Intel Core i3-2310M 2.1GHz
· 8GB DDR3
· HDMI / VGA Out
OS / Software:
· Windows 8 Pro - sorry, need Windows due to software requirements :)
· MS Office 2010 or 2013
· Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 Professional
· JAWS, Window Eyes, or ZoomText Screen Reader (for blind / low vision users)
· Autohotkey (for hotkey scripts)
Current Issues that I need to or would like to address:
· Turn on remotely or automatically with vehicle (hack remote turn-on via switch, relay or both)
· No mounting kit available for single din stereo opening- Is this something that could possibly be designed/printed?
· Microphone solutions for Dragon? Could use Bluetooth or usb headset, but I prefer no headset any ideas?
· Touch friendly media player.
· I also have a HP Touchsmart TX2 Tablet with GPU issue (does not start) – any possibility of using the 12” touchscreen from that???
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jamie

Lilput has a small touchscreen
I was looking at a 7” Lilliput with an adaptor to fit into factory opening.
