Dear Colleagues,
Register now for the International Conference on the Tools of the Trade: The Way Forward, March 14-16, 2023, at Harvard University, immediately prior to the Association for Asian Studies annual meeting in Boston. This is an in-person conference. Register to attend or register to propose one or more presentations. Registration is free.
Sponsored by several research institutes and libraries concerned with East Asia at Harvard, the conference addresses the transition from print to digital tools, databases, and platforms in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Buddhist studies. The conference will be in four forms:
Plenary sessions, at which leaders of libraries and research centers in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Europe, North America, and Buddhist studies will discuss their respective strategies for future development and survey East Asian digital humanities. We hope this will spark comparisons and contrasts, mutual learning, and considerations of improving connectivity across national boundaries. Taping of the plenary sessions is under discussion.
Presentations of exemplary projects at which participants demonstrate their innovative digital humanities projects. Propose projects for presentations by registering.
Center and library presentations at which libraries and centers for digital humanities and scholarship showcase the tools, platforms, and databases they have developed. The institutions will also share their roles and vision in the future.
Workshops that discuss new technologies and methods that are not language specific. Topics include but are not limited to this list.
