Hello all,

FYI, an upcoming talk by Kitamoto Asanobu (CODH) virtually through Yale: 

Reading Edo: Data-driven Approaches for Japan Studies
Yale East Asian Library Workshop
February 8
7:00PM-8:00PM EST
via Zoom

The talk will introduce data-driven humanities projects at the Center for Open Data in the Humanities (CODH) on historical materials during the Edo period such as Edo maps, miwo (A mobile app for AI kuzushiji recognition), Kaokore, Bukan Complete Collection, and edomi, with discussion on how these tools and new methodologies will transform the style of Japan Studies.

Dr. Asanobu Kitamoto received his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1997. Currently, he is the Director of the ROIS-DS Center for Open Data in the Humanities (CODH). He is also a professor in the Digital Content and Media Sciences Research Division at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) and the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI). He has received awards such as the Jury Recommendation Award (Art Division) from Japan Media Arts Festival, Yamashita Research Award from the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), the Best Paper Award from Jinmoncom Symposium, and the Academic Award (Research Paper) from Japan Society for Digital Archive.
