The Message of Christmas… The Savior in a manger!

“While they were there (Bethlehem), the time came for Mary to have her
child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in
swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room
for them in the inn.” (Luke 2: 6-7)

The narrative of Jesus’ birth is a remembrance of God’s generousity …
May we continue to live in the abundance of that gift – Jesus, our
Savior!

A Blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year 2009!

Your wit and humor will be sorely missed Fr Jun. Guess you will continue giving your lectures in heaven with God himself and the saints in the front row?
Sorry to have missed that meal at your favorite place in Marikina due to a delayed flight. Looking forward to seeing you at the eternal banquet someday where we don’t have to worry about who is going to pay!!!

This is sooo sad. Condolence to the family.

Farewell, Pads. Your passing created a large void. You were, after all, our Father and spiritual guide, friend, educator, fighter (especially of rights), etc. Pls. continue to guide and pray for us from up there.

I was not expecting to get this news. I knew that he was sick with Covid, but the last news were quite encouraging. God knows when the best moment for each one of us has arrived. I thank the Lord for having known Fr. Jun for longer than 30years now. May he rest in peace at the presence of our Master! Be assured of my prayer for his eternal rest and for the consolation of all his family members and the Oblate family.

So saddened by this news. Rest in peace, Fr. Jun, in our Lord's heavenly abode. Loving sympathies to the Mercado family especially to his sister Celia and husband Ferdie Ona.
-- I knew them at UST hospital when they were in med school and I was in nursing. Fast forward: met Fr. Jun at the Provincial House in Cotabato; I saw the memorial booklet
      for their mother and approached him that Celia and Ferdie were classmates of my Ate Sally (Rosalie Loyola Wong). He even invited me to have a drink with him -- Jack Daniels;
humm, I chose plain water! Everyone had retired but we chatted (with another Oblate with us) and surely got to know Fr. up close and personal, aside from succeeding
encounters. Anyone would get struck by his brilliance and having that unique elephant memory. You can talk anything under the sun and get an imposing "yes, yes, yes"
from him. Fr. Jun -- you'll, surely, be sooo missed by so many souls you'd touched. -- loving thoughts and prayers from Cris & Annabelle (Loyola) Cosas

NAMFREL mourns the passing of Fr. Eliseo "Jun" Mecado, Jr., OMI. Fr. Jun was NAMFREL Provincial Chairperson for Maguindanao from 1987 to 2001, and was a member of its National Council from 2009 to 2013. A pioneer volunteer of NAMFREL, Fr. Jun was a constant support and consultant to NAMFREL, especially in issues concerning southern Mindanao.

Fr. Jun was a well-known peace advocate, an expert in both the Christian and Muslim faith who facilitated understanding between peoples. He was a person whose lips and life preached the same message of love, freedom, and reconciliation. While his passing is a loss to his immediate community and the whole country, may his life serve as an inspiration to those whose lives he touched, to continue what he started and personified.

According to OMI Philippines, funeral mass will be held on May 29 at 8:30am, and will be livestreamed on the Facebook page of Notre Dame University https://www.facebook.com/Notre-Dame-University-511519545995125
