From the ACH:
This morning, ACH received reports that DOGE arrived at the National Endowment for the Humanities. We have now confirmed these reports, and Chair Shelly C. Lowe has apparently been replaced by Acting Chair Michael McDonald. The approach and potential cuts have a direct impact on the NEH’s Office of Digital Humanities (ODH), which has been foundational to the growth of our field.
We are gathering information on this rapidly unfolding situation as work to develop short- and long-term responses to support NEH and our entire Digital Humanities community. ACH remains committed to a diverse, inclusive, and supportive DH forged on our core values of equity and social justice, care and collaboration.
As our first rapid response project, we have created a form to collect information about impacts on research. If your NEH work has been impacted, or is impacted in the future, let us know. This form is anonymous, though you can share your contact info if you like.
- Show your support for the NEH on BlueSky and Mastodon. If you tag ACH (@ach.bsky.social and @a...@hcommons.social), we will repost. We hope to show our colleagues care and support in this small way, as we develop more sustained interventions and responses.
- Learn more about NEH impact in your state. Elected officials are most influenced by what's happening in their constituency, so take a look at NEH projects and impact where you live.
- Contact your elected officials and tell them the NEH is essential. Whether you call or email, your voice makes a difference. Find your elected officials here.
To join us as we engage in advocacy efforts, please email secr...@ach.org. Read our statement of support for NEH.
