Good morning, all,

It's been a while (the summer!) since we've sent a newsletter. I wanted to share this event happening at NC State Libraries.

Take care - and look for our newsletter to resume soon!

Cheers,

Rhea

Hello! There will be an event at NCSU Libraries next month that will likely be of interest to many members of the DHC-NC community (details below). I’m wondering if you might post this to your news feed and help spread the word? This is a free event, and everyone is welcome to attend for both days. Registration (by Sep 20) ensures parking and food for a participant but isn’t a requirement for attending.

Thanks!

Liz

Join us at the capstone Triangle SCI (2024 October 7-8, NCSU)!

Are you interested in scholarly communications issues and emerging challenges and opportunities in academic libraries and scholarly publishing? Then please consider participating in the Triangle Scholarly Communication Institute for a symposium on these topics on October 7 and 8 at Hunt Library on NCSU's Centennial Campus in Raleigh. We encourage faculty, students, researchers, librarians, people working in publishing, research funding, other areas of academia, or anyone interested in the work of scholarly communication to join us for this stimulating and interactive program.

Registration is free, and free parking, snacks, and a box lunch will be provided. If you’re interested in participating, please complete the registration form at https://duke.is/trianglesci-2024-registration by September 20.

TriangleSCI has been hosted by Duke University Libraries since 2014 in partnership with our Triangle university colleagues and with funding support from the Mellon Foundation. Over the previous eight Institutes, dozens of teams and several hundred participants have come to the Triangle from around the world to work together on projects related to improving scholarly communication, and left here energized and ready to continue the work started at TriangleSCI.

This year, as the funding for this program concludes, we will gather in a capstone symposium, to reflect on important issues and lessons learned through projects launched or incubated at TriangleSCI, explore emerging challenges and opportunities in scholarly communication, and make plans for next steps.

The program will include panel discussions on the first day, on topics such as "The Case for Values in Scholarly Communication"; "Taking action to address inequities in scholarly communications and academia"; "Removing barriers and promoting broader access, accessibility, and engagement in scholarly communications and academia";  and "Emerging Challenges and Opportunities", covering topics like artificial intelligence, surveillance capitalism, and copyright and fair use. These will be moderated conversations with experts and people who developed projects on these themes at TriangleSCI in the past, and will include time for discussion with the audience. On the second half-day, participants will join breakout working groups to develop action plans that you can take back to your home contexts to launch or support projects based around topics covered on the first day. You are welcome to participate for both days, or just the first day.

More information and the full program can be found at https://trianglesci.org/

If you're interested in participating, please register here soon! https://duke.is/trianglesci-2024-registration
