Mark Ty-Wharton's Blog: Towards And Fear

Towards And Fear

Posted: 17 Jun 2011 01:53 AM PDT

We are born into the world empty

And in those first few years

They teach us fear

Don’t touch that it’s hot

It’s dangerous

Don’t talk to people

Don’t live fast

And then it happens

A frightening change

And we are complete

Entering adulthood

Spilling over with fear

Terrified

Fear is bad they say

We need to move away from it

To a place without fear

Anything that is not fear

Is good

Another drink

To quench your thirst

Or your fear

Another pill

I have a clearer idea of what this means now

Always moving away from fear

Moving in that direction

Confusing

Because there are no real choices

Other than NOT

And yet

For some time now I have been living towards

A number of things I see as possible

And holding these goals in mind

A new direction

Towards

What happened to fear you ask?

I am not sure

It is a constant companion

Right here and now

Thinking of a fuel gauge

Fear might be full

And empty might be the goal

To empty the tank

To die

As I move towards death

There is less fear

Having passed the half way point

It seems easier to move towards

Than away
