Eunice Ruiz's son, Gabriel

Dear Sangha,

Many of you know Eunice ("Punkin") Ruiz. She has been a regular member of our group via zoom for a few months now, joining us from Arizona.  

On Sunday, Eunice's son, Gabriel R.Sykes-Garcia, died in a motorcycle accident near San Diego, where he was stationed in the Navy.  Our hearts go out to Eunice and her family during this unfathomably difficult time.  

Even though Eunice lives in Arizona (two full hours earlier!), she has been managing to consistently get up early to join our morning meditation group. She is a very devoted practitioner.    Our Tonglen meditation was dedicated to Eunice and Gabriel this morning. We hope Eunice and her family can feel the love, compassion and broken heart that we are all continuing to offer. We hope Gabriel can feel our offerings of love and light.

Sam reminded us during this morning's meditation that we only really have this moment right now -- no matter what we might be planning or thinking.  This tragic loss is a reminder to put aside delusions of some imagined future and live this day in awareness, with compassion and love.
