BUBS Activities Update from 4 June 2019

1. Thursday Meditation Session by Bro.Tan Buck Soon

We are pleased to inform  that  Bro. Tan Buck Soon will be leading this Thursday's meditation session at UBV on 6 June 2019 from 8.30pm - 10pm.

The program is as follows: -

8.30pm - Puja

8.40pm - Group Sitting (40 minutes)

9.20pm - Dhamma sharing / Q&A

9.55pm - Sharing of Merits

10pm - End

2. Dhamma Talk by Ven. Ajahn Anan - Live from Wat Marp Jan every Friday evening

Meditation starts at 7.15pm, followed by chanting at 8pm.  The Meditation and Chanting will be led by the Venerables at Wat Marp Jan.  You are welcome to join the Dhamma talk at 8.30pm if you cannot make it earlier.  There will be a Q and A session after the talk.

3. Sunday Puja and Recorded Reading by Ven. Ajahn Amaro from “The Collected Teachings of Ajahn Chah” on  9 Jun 2019 at 9am

This Sunday’s Puja will be facilitated by Bro.Danny, followed by a recorded reading from “The Collected Teachings of Ajahn Chah” by Ven. Ajahn Amaro on “Detachment Within Activity”. For further info, please contact Bro.Danny Liew at 012-2073925.

 


4. Dhamma School

There will be no Dhamma classes on 09 June in conjunction with school term and Hari Raya holidays. Dhamma School will resume on 16 June 2019.  Happy holidays to all students and teachers.  Sukhihontu.


5. Module 1 Buddhism Course

Module 1 of the 3-week Buddhism Course will be held over 3 week-ends starting 2 June 2019. The schedule for the 2nd and 3rd session is as follows:

Week 2 (Sun,9 June 2019)

Week 3 (Sun, 16 June 2019)

All the sessions will be conducted at the following time and venue:

Ven. Kaiyin (開印法師)

 

Venerable Bhikkhu Kai Yin, founder and abbot of Santavana Forest Hermitage, Sabah, Malaysia, is a highly recognized master of samatha (tranquility) and vipassana (insight) meditation. With a special interest in the Theravada commentarial literature, the Sutra-Pitaka of Nikāya/Agāma collections, and the Yogacara school of Buddhism, Bhikkhu Kai Yin is well-read and has gained acclaimed expertise in the studies and teaching of Abhidhamma, Visuddhimagga (Path of Purification), Mahaprajnāpāramitā-śāstra, and Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra.

Ordained in 1987 in Ang Hock See Buddhist Temple, Penang, Malaysia, Bhikkhu Kai Yin studied at the Buddhist Institute of Malaysia and then Yuan Kuang Buddhist College in Taiwan. He practiced various meditation methods, extensively and intensively, under the guidance of a number of renowned meditation masters, including Thera Ji Cheng, Thera Xiu Jing, Thera Sheng-yen, Goenka and Pa-Auk Tawya Sayadaw. He was a lecturer at Yuan Kuang Buddhist College (1995) and the Director of the Education Division at Fuyan Buddhist College in Taiwan (1996) before establishing Santavana Forest Hermitage in 1998.

 

Bhikkhu Kai Yin has travelled worldwide to give dharma lectures and lead meditation retreats. He authored over ten books and journal articles and has released a wide collection of audios (CD/MP3) of his dharma talks, including the most welcome publication of his 53 lectures on Abhidhammattha-sangaha (2003)

 

7. Evening Mandarin Dhamma Talk by Venerable Ajahn Kaizhao at 8.30pm on  Sunday, 16 June 2019

We are pleased to announce that Ven. Ajahn Kaizhao has accepted our invitation and will be giving a Mandarin Dhamma talk at UBV on Sunday, 16 June 2019 at 8.30 pm.

8. The applications of mindfulness - A satipatthana retreat by Patrick Kearney - 10 Aug 2019 - 17 Aug 2019

Registration for this retreat is open. Please see attached.

There is no fee charged for the retreat but donation is encouraged.

Patrick Kearney

Patrick Kearney is an independent dharma teacher in the lineage of Mahasi Sayadaw. He has trained extensively in the Mahasi approach to insight meditation, his principal teachers being Panditarama Sayadaw and John Hale. He has also trained in the Diamond Sangha lineage of Zen Buddhism. His original teacher was Robert Aitken Roshi, and he has since studied with other Diamond Sangha teachers in Australia.

Patrick has a particular interest in the original teachings of the Buddha, before the creation of Theravada or Mahayana. He studies Pali, the language of the earliest surviving Indian recension of the Buddha's teachings, and seeks to bring his understanding of the early texts to the practice of dharma in the contemporary world.

 Luang Por Sucitto

Born in London in 1949, Luang Por Sucitto entered monastic life in Thailand in 1975. He took bhikku ordination there in 1976 and returned to Britain in 1978 to train under Luang Por Sumedho in the lineage of the Thai Forest master, Luang Por Chah.

In 1979, Luang Por Sucitto was part of the group of monks that established Cittaviveka, Chithurst Buddhist Monastery in West Sussex, UK.  Luang Por was abbot of Cittaviveka from 1992 till 2014.  Presently, LP travels on teaching engagements throughout the world.

 

 

10. Retreat with Venerable Ajahn Kaizhao at Uttama Bodhi Vihara( UBV)  from Tue, 22 Oct 2019 to Sun, 27 Oct 2019

Ven. Kai Zhao

Venerable Kai Zhao @ Bhikkhu Yuttadhammo was born in 1963 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia, Ven. was ordained as a monk in 1987 under the tutelage of Venerable Boon Keng of Ang Hock Si Monastery, Penang. In 1990, he graduated from Malaysian Buddhist Institute. He founded Nibbana Vihara in 1999 and became the Abbot of the Vihara until his resignation in 2006. Since 2007, Ven Kai Zhao has been travelling widely throughout the world engaging in self-cultivation and preaching Dhamma in many countries.

Bhante Kaizhao has learnt meditation under the guidance of Venerable Boon Keng, Venerable Ji Cheng, Bhante Javana, Venerable Xiu Jing, Bhante Thongbai and Pa-Auk Sayadaw. He is currently a member of the Advisory Committee of the Elders at Santavana Forest Hermitage in Sabah and a religious counseling teacher in various prisons. Likewise, he was previously the religious advisor of Nibbana Dhamma Rakkha in Singapore. Under invitation, he frequently leads meditation retreats, Dhamma courses, and conducts programs of Experiencing Monastic Life for laypeople.


開照比丘

 1963年出生於呲叻州怡保1987年依止檳城洪福寺文建長老披剃出家。1990年畢業於馬來西亞佛學院。1999 年創辦寂靜園。2006年御下主持一職。2007年至今四處雲遊,靜修與隨緣各國弘法。曾親近文建長老、繼程長老、Javana長老、修靜長老、Thongbai長老、帕奧長老學習禪法。現任沙巴寂靜禪林長老團成員和監獄佈教師。曾任新加坡護法苑宗教導師。也常被邀請主持短期出家營、禪修營、靜修營、護法營、及主持佛法課程。

2. Birthday blessings every first Tuesday of the month at 8.30 pm.
