BUBS Activities Update from 30 July 2019


1. Dhamma Talk by Ven. Ajahn Anan - Live from Wat Marp Jan every Friday evening

 

Meditation starts at 7.15pm, followed by chanting at 8pm.  The Meditation and Chanting will be led by the Venerables at Wat Marp Jan.  You are welcome to join the Dhamma talk at 8.30pm if you cannot make it earlier.  There will be a Q and A session after the talk.

2. Sharing Your Garden Produce – Every Sunday

 

If you have excess fresh garden herbs, vegetables, fruits or edible plants in your garden,

Waste Not.  Bring them to share with our devotees on every Sunday.

Clean, sort  and label them ( if needed) and place them at our Sunday Flower Sales Counter for collection by those who need them.

3. Sunday Dhamma Sharing by Venerable B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka MahaThera  on  Sunday, 4 Aug 2019 at 9am

 

We are pleased to inform that BUBS's spiritual advisor, Venerable Sri Saranankara will be giving a Dhamma sharing after our regular Puja.

Venerable B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Mahāthera

 

Venerable B. Saranankara Mahāthera arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Sri Lanka in 1984. With a passion for social welfare service, Venerable founded  the Siri Jayanti Welfare Organization in 1991 which then started a Free Clinic, Free Tuition Classes and the Metta Home. In 1996, he renovated the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Kuala Lumpur. 

 

On 29th January 2007, the Supreme Council of the Mahā Sangha of the Malwatu Mahā Vihara, Malwatta Chapter of the Syamopali Maha Nikaya of Sri Lanka conferred the honorary title of “Sangha Keerthi Sri” upon Venerable B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Mahā Thera and appointed Venerable as the Chief Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka of Malaysia.

 

In 2012, at the invitation of the Theravāda Buddhist Council of Malaysia (TBCM), he consented to be on its Monastic Advisory Panel.

4. Lunch Dana for Venerable B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka MahaThera  and Sangha members on Sun, 4 Aug 2019

 

Members and friends are encouraged to offer lunch Dana to Ven. Sri Saranankara and members of the Sangha at 10.30 am.

 

Please bring your cooked food, dessert and fruits, half an hour (30 Mins)  before the designated meal time.

5. Dhamma School (DS) - Annual Examination Blessing Service on Sunday, 4 Aug 2019

BUBS Dhamma School will be organising an Examination Blessing service including a talk on Exam Preparation. The Blessing Service is aimed at removing obstacles and reinforcing the confidence and well-being of students. 

  Members, Parents and their friends with children sitting for public examinations are encouraged to join this Talk and Blessing Service.  Students from  DS7, TQ2 and TQ3 must join this event and are encouraged to bring along their non Muslim friends and classmates.  Parents are also invited.

 

The Blessing Service will be conducted by guest Monks from Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul and is dedicated towards the success of the children in the coming public examinations ("UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM etc”).

10.45 am                               : Community Lunch (Lower Ground Floor)

11.15 am to 12 noon : Gotong Royong (Lower Ground floor)

 

To participate in the meritorious deeds of generosity, parents / students / members / devotees / friends are encouraged to join the following activities:-

a.             Bring a cooked dish or dessert for DANA by 9.30 am. Please send food to Lower Ground floor.

b.            All Dhamma School students are required to participate in the DANA AT 10.30 am

c.             Gotong Royong Cleaning-up after the Community Lunch.  Programme will end at 12 noon.

d.           Sunday refreshment will only be served to Pre-School and DS1 students from 10.15 am to 10.30 am

6. Meditation Retreat with Ven. Ajahn Karuniko at Uttama Bodhi Vihara ( UBV)  from  Fri, 22 Nov 2019 to Wed, 27 Nov 2019 

Registration for this retreat is open. Please see attached. Closing date is on 31 Aug 2019 or upon reaching our optimum numbers.

Venerable Ajahn Karuniko

Ven.  Ajahn Karuniko (Christopher John Woodfine) was born in 1953 near Manchester, England. He graduated from Sheffield University in 1975 with an honours degree in electronics engineering. After graduation, he worked as an engineer in North London.

Ven Ajahn’s first contact with Buddhism was from reading a book in 1976, which made a deep impression on him. Two years later, he had the good fortune to meet Ven Ajahn Sumedho who had recently taken up residence in Hampstead Vihara, North London. He then became an anagarika (novice) in 1982 under the guidance of Ven Ajahn Sumedho at CITTAVIVEKA Chithurst Buddhist Monastery, England.

In July 1984, Ven Ajahn Karuniko took the monk’s (bhikkhu) ordination with Ven Ajahn Sumedho. Ven Ajahn Karuniko had spent most of his monastic life helping to establish monasteries in England and New Zealand. At present, he is the Abbot at CITTAVIVEKA Chithurst Monastery.

7. 9D8N India/Nepal Pilgrimage with Luang Por Thong Daeng, 2 January 2020 – 10 January 2020 

 

We are pleased to announce that we will be organising another India pilgrimage trip, this time to all the 4 main holy sites - Bodhgaya, Lumbini, Kushinagar and Varanasi. It is indeed a rare opportunity to have Luang Por Thong Daeng (the abbot of Wat Phra Chow Dton Luang, Chiang Mai) and Tan Ajahn Moshe leading this trip.

 

                         Bodhgaya – the place of the Buddha’s enlightenment

                         Lumbini – the birth place of the Buddha

                         Kushinagar – the place the Buddha entered into Parinibbana

                          Varanasi – Sarnath, the place the Buddha set in motion the wheel of the Dhamma

 

The indicative price is RM9,600 (subject to change). It is inclusive of ground cost, international and 2 domestic flights (within India) and including Visa Fee.
