The Kathina comes at the end of Vassa, which is the end of the three-month rainy season retreat in India, and is a celebration of community & generosity. It is the traditional time of year for the lay community to express their support for the monastic Sangha by offering essential requisites (food, clothing, shelter, and medicines).
The central feature of Kathina is the offering of robe cloth to the Sangha, who awards it to one of their members--in some traditions, this cloth is then sewn into a robe before dawn of the next day. This year, the Kathina has been initiated, and the cloth for making the Kathina robe has been pledged, by our recently-retired-president of Dhammadharini Support Foundation, Susie Kliks.
Susie warmly welcomes everyone to join her in offering cloth, or robes, or any other monastic requisites for the Kathina as a gesture of welcome and support to the Bhikkhuni Sangha going forward.
