Hi Everyone --
Exciting news and stuff for everyone! I hope everyone is having a great
evening and lots planned for the weekend -- it's getting to the end of
summer. Of course, doesn't mean we'll have less 100 degree days, ah
well.
First, mark your calendars for SUNDAY, October 22nd. The Richardson
Friends of the Library and the Richardson Adult Literacy Center (RALC)
are sponsoring a readers tea from 2pm to 4pm at the Richardson Hotel
(Campbell and 75). The proceeds will go to the RALC, a great cause. And
there'll be 25 romance authors as guests of honor. In other words, it's a
romance tea for literacy (Buns and Roses).
Tickets are $25 per person or a table of nine for $250 to sit with author
of choice. During the reservation we can put in three choices for our
author -- the list will be up by September 1st at
http://bunsandroses.org. Fresh Fiction is buying a table for DFW Tea
Readers Group and we've got six spots left. It would be cool if we could
actually get TWO tables, but no pressure. They are also looking for
volunteers for the day of the event to help with registration, goodie
bags, hostess duties.
If you're interested in a spot let me know, it would be great if we get
volunteers and CAN fill TWO tables. All donations are tax deductible (the
RALC is a 501c). Since our tea would the weekend before, let's use this
as our October tea.
September Tea -- time for the western side
Mindy has offered to hostess a tea at her house on Saturday, September
9th, is that a good location for everyone? If not, is
Katie’s Daughters in Arlington for the 9th better? I need to know
who will be able to come to the September tea ASAP and whether you prefer
Mindy's house or Katie's Daughters. We need to make reservations
ASAP.
September Meeting and Book Signing with Stephen Cannell
On Monday, September 18th, Mr. Cannell will be signing WHITE SISTER at
the Barnes and Noble on Northwest Highway (the Nora Roberts signing) and
he'd like to meet with our group. His publicist is trying to squeeze us
in for a meet-and-greet prior to the signing, which would be really cool.
He's a great mystery author as well as Hollywood producer (see previous
email). I'm asking if we could do a quick dinner at the Cheesecake
Factory (next door to the BN) prior to the signing. I need a possible
head count.

September Book Club is Wednesday, September 20th with Karyn Witmer. I
have a couple of copies of her book, A SIMPLE GIFT, which is truly a
great read, so if you're coming to the tea in September, let me know
who'd like it. It is out in paperback next week. We're doing
Mexican, Daniel is getting great at the beef and chicken fajitas.

October Book Club is Wednesday, October 19th with Beverly Barton.
It's a suspense kind of night and we're taking suggestions for the menu.
Barton's latest book, CLOSE ENOUGH TO KILL, came out in paperback in
July.

Gwen is in charge our new membership coordinator *grin* So if you
meet people at a bookstore, know anyone who loves to read also, or just
have some friends you can wrestle into coming, please tell them about our
events and bring them! Hopefully having our tea over in the west in
September will make it easier on most of the members!
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to email or
call me. I will have more information soon about the Buns and Roses
Tea and the website should be up by September 1 at
http://bunsandroses.org. Gwen will be in touch about the September
Tea.
Have a great weekend!
