Out of curiousity, how often do you have to reboot the serious NT machines?
Every 2-3 days or so?

Believe it or not, it is possible to install and administer Windows NT
in such a way that it is very stable and reliable. In order to do this
you have to follow some very strict procedures. I've had a couple of NT
systems stay up for over 3 months.

OTOH, I've had many Linux systems up for over 6 months, and one as long
as 16 months. More often I reboot due to having to make hardware changes
like adding a disk drive, than because of an operating system failure.

It's tempting to blurt out things like "Serious and NT in the same phrase
is a contradiction". However, NT can function fairly well if the admin
is very serious about it. I don't have any idea if the people at LiteSpeed
are as serious as is needed, but the potential is there. Likewise, Linux
and other UNIX systems can be a total shambles in the hands of a bad admin.

1. Install OS on a freshly formatted disc.
2. Configure for your site specific needs.
3. Shutdown and turn off power; the system will
now be utterly crashproof.
4. Go cross-post your experience to 3 dozen Usenet groups :-)

Every 6-8 weeks unless we need to apply some software or upgrade.

Is "strict" a certification level? Is it available
at a discount or a 2 for 1 arrangement? Does it
imply the same assurance one feels when compared
with an mcse, for example?
