Kind of a weird subject, but here goes....
My wife and I were talking about a newslady who committe suicide
about 15 years ago. She was an anchor lady on one of the local
networks. Does anybody remember this?
My wife says she died by carbon monoxide poisoning in the garage
of her home by running her car with the door down.
She really remembers is that she had a lot of smile lines on
her face. (I guess she laughed a lot....)
She also remembers that she didn't show up for work and someone was
sent to find her. All they really said was that she had some really
disturbing news that day. The networks hushed it up a little bit
and nothing much more was said about it.
Please post publicly. Thank you.

I'm straining my memory here... was it Judy Jordan of Channel 4?

I think her name was Jan Bridgeman (or maybe it was Bridges). She
worked for Channel 8 (WFAA) and, I believe, was engaged to Tracy Rowlett
at the time of her suicide.

For some reason my wife was curious what the bad news was that
caused all this. Anyone??
I was not living in Dallas at the time, so I'm going by what she
has been telling me and she doesn't remember all the details either.

Also a MALE Channel 8 reporter (the name Jack Kendrick sticks
in my mind) did a similar suicide a few moths before or after.
weird.

BOTH these suicides occured shortly after the probable suicide of
NBC network anchor Jessica Savitch.

Frank, do you think the Jessica Savitch thing was a suicide? From reading
the book several years ago, I remember it being a (probable) drug related
car accident.

There was a PBS special about Savitch showing the night she gave the
news update totally incoherently. She claimed she had taken cough
medicine. Not that long afterwards, after a party on a very rainy
night, she drove down an unfamiliar path which unfortunately led to
the water. The car flipped upside down and both passengers drowned.
Her autopsy showed a cocktail of drugs present. Sad.

Lou Staples, formerly of KLIF, KRLD and KTOK (Oklahoma City) committed suicide.
Contrary to the rumors it was not because he 'knew too much' about the Kennedy
assassination.

I don't know about the other names that have been mentioned.

A Florida news anchor named Chris Chubbock shot herself while on the air,
but it was in 1974 if I recollect properly, so that's not the right time
frame.

The cover up is still pretty heavy, so there is no timeframe to an active,

I vividly remember this. Jan was my favorite local anchor woman. I never believed she committed suicide. She was engaged to her co-worker, Tracey Rowlett. This was probably the happiest time of her life. Why would she want to end her life? My late cousin and I always believed that Jan was murdered. I wish Cold Case Files or 48 Hours would would investigate her death.

I was just thinking about her tonight. It was Jan Bridgeman who committed suicide on 8/30/84 by carbon monoxide in her garage. From what I recall, he was having an affair with her although I never heard they were engaged....they could have been.

She was Jan Bridgeman a newscaster on the NBC affiliate in Seattle. She was married to John Bridgeman, a professor at the University of Washington.

Tracy Rowlett was having an affair with Jan. Tracy Rowlett was married. My memory tells me Tracy broke up with her and she killed her self.

I just remember that it was announced that Jan had mysteriously died and everyone in the Dallas media (regardless of station affiliation) kept it very quiet. I remember she was a very pleasant woman, nice looking, and seemed quite happy with her status at Channel 8. Then it was suggested that she and Tracy Rowlett were having an affair and that was all I remember. I often wondered about the suicide story, especially since she didn't seem the type to do that. I also do not think that Tracy had anything to do with her death either, because it was quite evident that he was shaken to his core about her death. Seems several other staff members of channel 8 were also quite shaken. Channel 8 was my favorite station when I lived in the Dallas area and I felt that all were good friends... I've been gone from Dallas for a lot of years, but I still remember a lot of the names from that era.

Jack was my uncle , he actually killed himself in the EXACT way the lady did it. Which makes you think if it Really was a suicide at all , but There was musings about the station director being involved in both and Jack was in negotiations to become the White House affiliate the next year. Sad. Ty for remembering him.
