Fort Worth Gamers: gaming session 07/24/23

Monday, 07/24/23 1 to 5:35 PM at Y2Komics, in southwest Fort Worth, TX.
This was another of our irregularly scheduled game sessions. We had two gamers at one table this very hot 106° afternoon.
Today’s game was Dave C’s Gettysburg 150. The game was new to me. It concerns the famous American Civil War battle fought over July 1-3, 1863, in Pennsylvania. We only had time to play the first day of the battle.
We were both constantly busy moving units and fighting small skirmishes. Alas that left me very little time to take notes on the overarching flow of the game.
I chose to command the Union forces today, leaving the Confederate troops to Dave. So, off we went advancing on each other, often via the map’s road network.
At the end of “Day 1” we called it quits. As just that had taken 3.5 hours! Dave then totaled things up. I was then surprised our scores were neck and neck. For I’d felt I was constantly losing after about two hours in.
When we stopped at the end of “day 1” our scores were: Michael W / Union 17, Dave C / Confederates 16. Duration: three hours and 31 minutes.
I liked the game, but it did take quite a long time. And that was just for the first third of the scenario. For at that rate a whole game might have taken 9 hours. Yikes!
