For 7.99 a month you do get access to a lot of books. I have read many, many books on KU that I might not have been able to afford buying. In the UK you might get a paperback for 7.99, during a month I read ten books on Kindle Unlimited which if I were to buy as brand new paperbacks each for 7.99 that would work out for 79.90. So Kindle Unlimited does definitely save you a lot of money while also giving you access to a lot of books.
You do get other content like podcasts and Audible Originals, like Heads Will Roll by Kate McKinnon and Emily Lynne narrated by a full cast. They do have some really cool Originals that are preformed by a full cast that are really entertaining and fun.
All three offer a wide range of stories and material for you to read and listen too. They all have such large catalogues that you can kind whatever you want. Sometimes you might struggle to find a specific thing but that could just be because of availability, release dates, contracts, etc. With all three I have found a lot of books that I have wanted to read or listen to.
Scribd I tend to use when I want to binge an audiobook series, which is much easier to do here than with Audible, and just when I want to read an ebook. Sometimes I will use Scribd to jump between audiobook and ebook. I also like the articles and short stories that you can find that are really interesting.
Despite the name change, we can still find a vast digital library that covers an extensive range of content, from bestselling novels and nonfiction to popular magazines, and from audiobooks to podcasts and sheet music.
Once you start a book, you can be sure that you get to finish it. You can add as many books to your library as you want. And if you read and listen wide to a range of genres, indie-published and backlist books, you will likely not be impacted much by throttling.
Hoopla is a digital platform for public libraries that offers audiobook downloads, as well as ebooks and movies. Most libraries will allow you 5 to 10 borrows per month, and using Hoopla is offered for free by participating libraries.
Everand and Hoopla have a very similar catalog. So, I like to recommend to avid audiobook listeners to use both services. Borrow the newest releases and bestsellers from Hoopla, where you are only limited by the amount of books.
If you often browse audiobook stores on a PC, I recommend you install Library Extension, a free little browser plug-in that I found incredibly useful as it helps me plan which audiobooks to borrow where.
If you are new to audiobooks, I can recommend an Everand free trial** wholeheartedly because it allows you to explore a variety of audiobooks. If you have only used Audible so far, you will love how you can listen to so many audiobooks here without having to spend money or an Audible credit.
I have been very disappointed with the change to Everand from Scribed. I enjoy listening to series of books over again. I have to work very hard to register to a book and am frequently not able to do it. I will be finding another app to listen to my audiobooks.

When playing Audible, the app shuts down after the screen goes to sleep. How do we fix this? iPhone 12 currently. Previously tried a couple of solutions suggested elsewhere, like closing lol other apps, restarting iPhone and app, etc.
The same issue just came up for me today. For the past several years, this has not been an issue. I'm not sure if an Apple update or an Audible update did something but as of yet, I haven't found a solution on my own.
I just had this issue tonight and I think I figured it out. Several apps on my phone needed to be updated, including audible. Try restarting your phone after updating any apps, fixed my issue right up.
First, it is not the Audible App. It worked perfectly when iphone went into sleep mode continuing to play the Audible book in car or just from phone speaker itself until I updated to most recent ios last night.
Why are you yelling at a wall? Is that going to fix your issue? Since others both in this thread and someone else I know have fixed it with an update of the Audible app that would seem to be their issue not Apple's. If Apple did this with the update then every Audible user would have the problem.
This occurrence of the audible app halting when the lights go out just started this last few days. I saw that there was a you tube video which multiple steps to reset the phone and the app. I don't want to go through all of that if there is a simple fix. If anyone knows please share.
I contacted Audible about this problem and was told to remove the audiobook from my phone and then re-download it again. This solved my problem. (They said if it happed with multiple books, the problem was probably with not having the current updates of the system software.)
I have the XS MAX running iOS 14.6. Audible stops working when the screen locks intermittently. Most times it works for about 4-7 days and I can fix it with a reboot. After reboot it works just fine until the next time. I did not have Disable auto lock set in the app (checked after finding this thread). If this works, and as a daily Audible user, I am about to lose a ton of battery life.
July 25/21. What a load of Crap! I did not have this issue until last night July24,21 when I installed a update. Stop spreading untruths. This is an Apple issue created by Apple. By the way we have 9 apple devices in my home.
This Apple reply below that it is something Audible must fix is all a bit of Apple smoke - i.e. the not my problem routine. An ios update did cause this issue, and it may be that Audible will in fact have to now do an update. but for an Apple rep to just throw up their hands on this issue and duck out - is definitely not Apple-like. I'm guessing they came up with some code that is affecting far more apps than just Audible - so totally unclear here who needs to do what - but some kind of sign that both are working together to fix would be nice
In a strategic pivot, Scribd has just rolled out an all-new app, Everland, which will serve as the go-to platform for ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, podcasts, news articles, and even sheet music. This move separates their vast content library into distinct categories across three different products.
