Hi patrick,

I tried running the energyplus example file, from dexen 0.3.3.7. Some
similar problems are also encountered by the rest of the guys.

1) I have installed the stuff as instructed, but the energyplus
example file seem not to work.
The "slice and dice" node seem not to work. Has "slice and dice" been
fixed? or i did not install the software properly? or should we try to
manually create the "energyplus generate model node"?

I am using windows 64 bit with houdini 32 bit, energyplus 32 bit, with
32bit dexen

2) I have tried to manually create the nodes from "energyplus generate
model node" and excluding the "slice and dice" node. Energyplus seem
to work with limitations.
I then tried to simulate the box with a single window from example 3
in four different climates to test out.

However i got some really weird results as following:

Location: Zone_cooling kwh
(cumulative): Zone_heating kwh (cumulative)
Finland 1035.23
kwh 8641.88kwh
San francisco 1596.24
kwh 7371.44 kwh
Tokyo 1286.71
kwh 7962.8 kwh
Singapore 2321.24
kwh 5358.18 kwh

The amount of cooling and heating seem to be proportional to the
climate.
However, the absolute values seem to be weird. Why would singapore
require 5358.18 kwh of zone_heating?

I have looked up energyplus output options and was wondering what
exactly Zone_heating kwh in the energyplus node refers to in the
actual energyplus program?
Is it simply the HVAC zone_heating? or it includes other actual output
in energyplus?

3) Lastly, what does the output "building energy transfer kwh"option
in "energyplus" node refer too? what loads does it actually include?
should we use it to extrapolate energy efficiency?

Thank you and regards
Tungsing

Sorry for the correction, i meant i am using 64bit dexen with windows
64 bit and houdini 32bit

guys,

i installed energy plus and it wasnt working fine the first time for me 2. but i checked whether energy plus was added to the windows path and found it wasnt there. So i added energy plus in the windows path using rapidee.exe and after that the houdini example file was working well. I have not checked the values as yet..but i found no node 'unhappy' and the score i got was 16602.3 kwh (cumulative) and 518.822 kwh (daily) for the default san fransico weather. Pls confirm if its the same score u guys get once u start eval_energy.hipnc.

im using 32bit windows 7 - 32 bit houdini and 32 bit dexen ver 7.

cheers

Hi vignesh, can you try simulating with singapore's data? Me and zengyuan, have high zone heating requirements, which is extremely weird. Shouldnt it be zero cooling load?
I think we need to ask patrick whats is wrong, as the reading from energyplus is werid.

hi tungising,
try this singapore wether file which i have attached with this mail. This one is different i guess frm wat u are using. This is the wether file which we have used in our design simulation module during first sem.

Hi kian wee,

I have tried to use both nittin's weather file and the one that i
downloaded from energyplus website, They give the same readings
I tried to debug and got the following results.

TEST 1
I tried to run the first one using the following settings:
1) Singapore's EPW
2) Example 3 file geometry from dexen 0.3.3.7 with only zone_1
3) Temp range from 28 (cooling pt) - 18 (heating point),
4) schedule time from (9-17)

Results is
1) Building total kwh = 7224.54
2) Zone cooling = 2973.49
3) Zone heating = 4251.05

TEST 2
I varied the temp range 28 (cooling pt) - 16 (heating point) and got
the same results as TEST 1

TEST 3
I varied the temp range 28 (cooling pt) - 0 (heating point) and got
the same results as TEST 1

TEST 4
I varied the temp range 50 (cooling pt) - 18 (heating point) and got
different results. Basically, its like telling the AIR-CON never to
operate at all

1) Building Total kwh = 6249.24
2) Zone cooling = 1981.83
3) Zone heating = 4267.82

The readings seems to make sense proportionately, but the absolute
values are strange to have readings for zone cooling when AIRCON is
off.

TEST 5
I varied the temp range 70 (cooling pt) - 18 (heating point) and got
different results. Basically, its like telling the AIR-CON never to
operate at all.
Since singapore will never reach 50 degrees or 70 degrees. I would
expect the increase of temp range to 70 from 50, not to have any
effect.

However strangely.
1) Building Total kwh = 2756.15
2) Zone cooling = 62.9824
3) Zone heating = 2693.17

Do you have any idea what this means?

Regards
Tungsing

I suspect it might be the code in the plug-in I need to look at the
node and see what is happening, maybe you can attach the file here so
I can take a look at it ? I need some time for this to see what is
happening.

Hi kianwee,

I have created a test version of the energyplus simulation for you to look at,
You can download my file here

You can find the example test file within my uploaded file under:  examples/xml/houdini_ea_3/eval_energy
Just unzip it and rem to check if the all the 3 OTLS (included inside my file) are loaded.

All i did was to load the singapore EPW file inside the 'energyplus_link' SOP.
You can find the weird readings within the 'energyplus_link' SOP itself. I have attached some sticky within for your reference.

thank you and regards.

PS: i have check the HTML summary energy report generated by the 'energyplus_link' SOP to have a better understanding. I discovered that there is district heating readings inside it.

You can find it under : examples/xml/houdini_ea_3/data/output table.html

sorry i cant seem to download the file from mediafire can you just
send an email with the attached file or something ? I think will be
easier like that.

Hi kian wee,

i have emailed you the attached file, in my earlier email, using my
NUS email account, as gmail do not allow exe files to be attached.

Thanks and regards

Hi sorry kian wee,

i was unable to attach the file to email, as they will bounce back,
due to the anti virus protection against EXE files.

Thus i uploaded it to another link, hopefully you can download it.

Just let me know, should the upload fail again

Hi kianwee,
should my previous link fail,
https://www.sendthisfile.com/4y0m12eUoHXDstmhzBWPWthQ

Theres another one:
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B9HYSpnYWoXfYTZmMjJlNmItODdhOC00MzcwLThlNzAtMjRhZDNiNzc2ZDJk&hl=en_GB

They both leads to the same file. I uploaded them at two locations,
just in case, since i cannot attached them to the email.

Just let me know if you are unable to download them.
Sorry for the troubles :)

Hi kianwee and patrick

did you managed to find out what is wrong with the energyplus plugin?
with regards to the weird absolute values that it is fetching?
I tried to look at it many times, but seems that i did not managed to
find out whats wrong with its settings, as i tried out different
combinations.

Thanks for the help

Hi guys for the energyplus node, I have looked at it and it seems
that
it got something to do with the python coding on how the schedule
heating and loading is written. For now in order to turn off the
heating if you are using a singapore file , you should set the
heating
schedule to 0 to 24 and this will give you a 0 heating load.
