Happy New Year from DevToaster!
We are thrilled to announce that after working closely with our
hardware manufacturer, they have found a solution to our hardware
integration problem. Surprisingly, the problem only appeared on the
iPhone (not the iPod touch), which suggests there is some
inconsistency in the iPhone's WiFi ad-hoc networking protocol
implementation. We have informed Apple of the problem and hope it
helps them in a future iPhone update.
But don't worry: we don't have to wait for Apple! Thankfully, our
hardware manufacturer has created a solid workaround to the problem
via a firmware update. We have been testing the fix for a number of
days now and it has been working beautifully. The update does not
affect the actual behavior of the OBD functionality and is not (as we
say in the software business) a "hack" -- it merely changes how the
device communicates with the iPhone over WiFi.
We can tell you this: Rev is working brilliantly again. It was a
great Christmas present for us here at DevToaster.
We will be testing Rev on the new firmware throughout the week and
also try to provide an update mechanism from within Rev. Our plan is
to ship Rev to Apple for approval in the week following New Year's Day
and it should be on the App Store shortly thereafter.
For those of you who have asked about our inventory situation, we
obviously didn't want to order more hardware until we were confident
about a firmware fix. Now that we have this in place, we will be
getting more inventory ASAP -- and we'll make sure this new firmware
is pre-installed onboard.
To our current customers and to the many people on our mailing list:
thank you, thank you, thank you for all your patience. We know how
excited you are to use Rev, and we're just as excited to get it out to
you. We will send another message out when we have shipped Rev to the
iPhone App Store.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please
feel free to e-mail us directly at
