Slant of Light’s Theater Lab, Ages 7-17, Classes Now Forming

Theater Lab gives students, ages 7-17, the opportunity to bring their
dreams to the stage and watch them come to life. Open to students of
all ages interested in acting, writing, directing, stage managing, set
designing, costume designing, producing, or a combination of any of
the above, our aim is to work through the various aspects of theater
with the students and assist in the production of our students'
individual visions. Each class is specifically targeted to our
students’ needs and aspirations. The first few classes are designed to
encourage ideas and spontaneity of expression. Projects are then
generated and the remainder of the session is geared toward mounting
the students' projects. Each student will have the opportunity to
participate in every aspect of their project as it comes to life, or
have the opportunity to choose a specific task they are interested in
and focus on that. This is an ideal class for the experienced theater
student as well as the shy student wishing to grow and learn in a safe
space.

Our students work in groups on their projects as well as one
another's. This fosters a sense of individuality and teamwork
simultaneously. Individual artists are brought in as needed to assist
the students with various theatrical specialties.

Every six weeks a presentation will showcase the students' progress
with their visions. This is modeled after an open house, where our
writers workshop their pieces, our actors perform, our artists display
their work and our producers/directors guide the event. This gives our
students the chance to show off what they have been working on as well
as get feedback on their work. It enables them to learn the importance
of process in theater, not solely product.

Conceived under the umbrella of Slant of Light Theater Company,
Theater Lab’s goal is to first, foster the imaginations of children,
and second, help them bring those images to life.
