HEARTBREAKER
by Michael R. McGuire
DIRECTOR:
Bryna Kearney
SYNOPSIS:
Pam, a struggling single mother and exotic dancer, is the most
important witness to the alleged rape of a fellow dancer at the hands
of a group of privileged college athletes. Why doesn’t investigator
Maxwell Freeman want to hear what she has to say? HEARTBREAKER was a
National Playwrights Conference 2008 Semi-Finalist and produced by
Hygienic Theaterwerks in 2010.
CHARACTERS:
KIM (Female – Early 30s): College student, mother and exotic dancer.
Practical. Black.
CARL (Male – Late 20s): Owner of Carla’s Wet & Wild strip club.
Untrustworthy. Shady. White.
LISA (Female – Late 30s): Exotic Dancer. Loves her work. White.
MAXWELL (Male – Early 40s): Special Investigator to the DA’s Office.
Dapper, smooth, well dressed. Black.
**Please note: Both female characters must exotic/pole dance on stage.
Actors auditioning for these roles should either have exotic dance
training/experience or they should be dancers willing to learn exotic
dancing. Both female roles also require partial nudity. The script
handles both of these things respectfully and authentically, but they
are crucial to the piece and will not be compromised.**
WHAT TO PREPARE:
Please come prepared with a 1-2 minute dramatic, contemporary
monologue. Female actors may be asked to dance. Actors should also be
prepared to read from the script. (Full script available upon
request.)
