Devilspie2 is basically a wrapper around the functionality in libwnck:
http://developer.gnome.org/libwnck/stable/overview.html
http://developer.gnome.org/libwnck/stable/
which means there is not much of composite suport - I am personally
totally unaware of transset-df, so I wouldn't be a good implementer of
the functionality. But if someone has any patches, they are most
welcome. I havn't thought about any details regarding some extension
system, but that sounds like a good idea.
My current works on devilspie2 is internationalisation support using
gettext which is more or less implemented in git.
I am a user of Xfce, and I am very satisfied with the pretty minor
composite support that is availible there.
best regards, and thank you for your interest in devilspie2!

Hmm.. Yes it does not supports compositing things... At least I was
not able to find anything similar (but my C-fu is not really strong).

Well I'm not against transset-df, but - it's dead :(( And removed from
Debian repos. I wont be able to make something really cool (like
extensions system, but I will try to make a patch that will add
opacity functions to devilspie)
