It sounds like you have multiple volumes (series) in your set of slices.

When you want to load DICOM slices as volumes, usually each volume's
slices have to be aligned. The best way to see this, is to point the
DICOMBrowser module at the directory containing all your slices. Then
you should see it sort the whole directory (in memory) into series,
where each series as a group of slices belonging together (as a
volume).
