Vacancy Announcement - Search for Common Ground's (SFCG)

 

Search for Common Ground's (SFCG) mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. SFCG started its operation in Nepal in early 2006 and has been working since that time to support the peace process by using an integrated approach of media, and community outreach and peace building activities.

 

SFCG-Nepal invites application from qualified, experienced, and interested candidate for the following positions:.

1. Design Monitoring and Evaluation (DM&E) Officer

Summary of Position

The DM&E Officer will work under the supervision of the DM&E Coordinator to strengthen DM &E systems within SFCG. Specifically the Officer will be responsible for keeping the M and E database up to date, analyzing monitoring information and briefing staff and partners in results.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The DM&E Officer will be responsible to:

  • Assist the DME team in analysis, report writing, and evaluation. 
  • enter all monitoring data into the M and E database  
  • Collect, compile and analyses the focus group discussions of radio programmes 
  • analyse information on the M and E database and prepare analysis reports
  • Develop a reporting matrix of SFCG monitoring staff to harmonize their mobility and report submissions;
  • Support the DM&E Coordinator to develop mechanisms for internal and external information sharing
  • Carry out field research and monitoring for SFCG programs, including pre and post tests of trainings
  • Assist the DM&E Coordinator to train SFCG staff and partners in monitoring tools
  • Assist in preparation of Monitoring bulletins for internal and external audiences
  • Perform other duties as necessary, support overall development of DME systems 

 

Required qualifications and experience

·         2 years experience in research, monitoring and evaluation;

·         Bachelors degree in related field;

·         Demonstrated understanding  of DM&E field and concepts

·         proficient computer skills , Microsoft Access experience preferred

·         experience in data entry and analysis

·         Dynamic, creative, and independent work style;

·         excellent  analytical and writing skills 

·         Fluent in spoken and written Nepali and English.

 

 

2. Executive Assistant

 

Summary of the Position:

The Executive Assistant directly works and reports to the Country Director (CD) and is responsible for ensuring the CD maximizes the strategic use of her time, by providing support and assistance in her daily activities, administration, and information management.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • To take care of all administrative and clerical duties related to the Country Director,
  • Responsible for minutes and reports for Management Committee,  and follow up on issues
  • Maintain the CDs calendar and priorities lists, schedule her appointments, coordinate meetings and travel
  • Oversee management of CDs correspondence: maintain accountability for accuracy and timeliness of all written communications, advice on appropriate follow up to correspondence received, routing in-bound and out-bound correspondence, writing and reviewing correspondence.
  • Prepare and process CD-related admin, such as expense reports, time sheets.
  • Assist the CD in development of meeting agendas and preparation for meetings and events
  • Develop and maintain filing systems for  all CDs electronic and paper files
  • Provide administrative support to other members of the Management Committee when necessary
  • Monitor funding opportunities,  gather and manage information on donor priorities 
  • Other duties as required to support the CD and the smooth functioning and development of SFCG

 

Required qualifications and experience

  • at least 2 years experience providing administrative support to executive level
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Nepali is essential
  • Strong organizational skills to manage diverse assignments
  • Self-motivation to work with minimal supervision, problem solver
  • Excellent event planning, filing, organizational and time management skills
  • Extraordinary attention to detail
  • Excellent skills working with computers, including a strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
  • training in administration or secretarial skills preferred

 

3. Media Coordinator

 

Summary of the Position:

The Media Coordinator will work closely with the media team to develop and implement communication programs aimed at supporting the peace process. S/he will be responsible to build the capacity of partner organizations and FMs to produce peacebuilding media programs, and to monitor media outputs, ensure timely implementation of programs.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the media team and the media manager, and as well as with the Director of Programs and the Country Director, to implement media related activities of the organization,
  • To work with media team to design integrated behavior change communication programs that support the peace process in Nepal
  • Coordinate  with the media partners for the successful production and broadcasting of various radio and television products, timely production and broadcast
  • To monitor the media products of SFCG ensuring quality and common ground approach, provide monitoring data to the Monitoring and Evaluation team, 
  • To work with the media team in preparing and writing proposals, reports and other documents
  • Develop communications strategies on issues related to the peace process as required
  • work with the DME team to ensure that media programs are monitored and evaluated, and that results are fed back in to improve the programs
  • Laise with the media to publicise programs of SFCG and its partners
  • Design and manage effective publicity campaigns for all SFCG media programs
  • Contribute to the overall development of SFCG and its media strategy 

 

Required qualifications and experience

  • Bachelors degree in related field
  • 5 years experience working inNepali media
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and networks with people and organizations coming from across geographical, caste, ethnic, and political lines
  • Demonstrated understanding of conflict issues/ conflict transformation  /peacebuilding
  • Dynamic, creative and entrepreneurial work style
  • Networks with key players in the radio field in Nepal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
  • Fluent in spoken Nepali, and spoken and written English 
  • project coordination experience preferred

 

Preferred:

  • Fluency in written Nepali
  • Fluency in one additional language used in Nepal
  • Experience in facilitation/ training/ coaching

 

4. Media Coach

 

Summary of the Position:

The Media Coach will work with the SFCG Media team to build the capacity of FM stations in using the radio for peacebuilding.  Specifically, the coach will be responsible for working directly with FM stations who are participating in the SFCG Radio for Peacebuilding Training Program, coaching the participants in how to apply the tools and techniques they have learned, and supporting them in production of programs.    The position requires a lot of travel to the field to work with the  FM stations.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work with the SFCG Media team to implement the training programs for media professionals on Radio for Peacebuilding.
  • To build the capacity of FM stations throughout Nepal in how to use radio for peacebuilding.
  • To coach FM producers in application of peacebuilding techniques and provide constructive feedback on their programming.
  • To work with SFCGs media partners in developing content with common ground approach.
  • To work with SFCG media team in implementation of other media related activities

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in related field;
  • 5 years experience in radio production 
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and networks with people and organizations coming from across geographical, caste, ethnic, and political lines

5. Child Protection Specialist

 

Summary of Position:

The Child Protection Specialist will provide proactive and strategic leadership in developing and implementing child protection strategies in SFCG programs.  This includes needs research, designing key messages for communication campaigns, capacity building of staff and partners in child protection. The Child Protection Specialist will be particularly focused on SFCG and AFNS child and youth focused radio programs Sunau Bolau and Naya Baato Naya Paila, as well as developing outreach material to support the programs. 

 

The assignment period is one year, with a possible extension, starting January 1st 2010.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Protection Specialist will be responsible to:

  • Develop programs according to  SFCG’s communication strategy for children associated with armed forces and armed groups (CAAFAG) and prepare key messages by consulting a range of stakeholders;
  • Provide technical support to the Sunau Bolau children’s radio programme, and provide input into other radio and TV programs produced by SFCG and partners
  • Work with the Community Peacebuilding Team in the area of Child Protection in 16 districts
  • Provide technical expertise to SFCG program team and partners  on child protection, through developing tools and methodologies, facilitate synergies and cross-learning within SFCG and with partners
  • Represent SFCG at the UNICEF- led CAAC working group
  • Actively participate other local and international networks related to Child Protection
  • Regularly update communication strategy and program plan for reintegration of children affected by armed forces and armed groups ;
  • Write reports in English and Nepali on SFCG’s Child protection program, contribute to proposal writing to develop new programs
  • Perform other duties as necessary, including support the DME team to develop tools to monitor child protection programs  

Qualifications

·         University degree in child protection, social sciences and related field

·         3 years of direct work experience in child protection preferable focus on CAAFAG .

·         Clear professional expertise and knowledge of child protection

·         Dynamic, creative, and independent work style;

·         excellent  analytical and writing skills 

·         Fluent in spoken and written Nepali and English.
