It is based in Kathmandu, Nepal. ICIMOD, a knowledge, learning and enabling centre is focusing on strategy and policy issues in relation to water and other renewable natural resources, environmental change and poverty reduction in the greater Himalayan region.

Project Title : HKH-HYCOS (Regional Flood Information System) Project
Programme : Integrated Water and Hazard Management (IWHM)
(Please find out the attached file for Terms of Reference)
The Hindu Kush – Himalayan (HKH) region produces one of the world’s largest renewable supplies of freshwater and is the source of ten of the world's largest rivers: the Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra, Mekong, Yangtze, Yellow River, Irrawaddy, Salween, Amu Darya and Tarim. These rivers are vital for the survival and well-being of more than a billion people in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan. However, recurrent floods in these rivers pose major water induced hazard to the vulnerable population that often lead to disasters. The incidence and intensity of water-related hazards and disasters are expected to increase in the HKH region as a result of climate change causing more frequent and damaging cycle of floods and droughts. There is an increasing need for timely and reliable early warning system for better preparedness to minimize the adverse impacts of floods.
ICIMOD in partnership with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) recently initiated Regional Flood Information system (HKH-HYCOS) project. The main focus areas of the project are; capacity building for flood forecasting, establishment of a regional flood information system, methodologies to obtain real-time hydrological observations. The core of the project will be a regional flood information system that will be accessible to all participating countries and relevant regional entities.
ICIMOD is looking to recruit a person with outstanding management and networking skills to assist the project coordinator of HYCOS project. The Assistant project coordinator and networking officer should also have reasonable awareness and knowledge on flood and flash flood hazards in the rivers basins, status of flood forecasting and early warning systems and transboundary cooperation in the HKH region.
Remuneration: Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as per the rules of ICIMOD.
