For your awareness, Medicare.gov now offers additional authentication providers for enrollees, including ID.me, CLEAR, and Login.gov. Medicare.gov is still supported as a login option as well. An FAQ on these new options can be found here: https://www.medicare.gov/account/login/help

These new options are now available for Blue Button API users to complete the authentication flow. Please let us know if your users experience issues connecting their data to your application.

For support, you can always email us at: Bluebuttonapi@ cms.hhs.gov.

Best,

Blue Button Team,

Two quick questions:

1. Do we require to integrate CLEAR or ID.me ---this is what they are saying.
2. Do we require to integrate DiME seal or is it an optional too?

Thank you for your time and your response.

Hi Venkata,Thank you for reaching out! We wanted to clarify a couple of things regarding the requirements for becoming an approved Blue Button API application.

Neither ID.me integration, CLEAR nor a DiMe seal are required to get approval as a Blue Button API app. You do not need to obtain any of these in order to move forward with the application and approval process. Blue Button apps are listed on the Medicare Connected Apps Directory.

However, integration with ID.me, CLEAR, or obtaining a DiME seal is required to join the Medicare App Library, which is a separate CMS initiative from the Blue Button API.

If you have any questions about what is required, or if you'd like guidance on the next steps to get your application approved by Blue Button, take a look at our Production Access page, which goes through the requirements in detail.

In the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out — we're happy to help walk you through the process.

Best,
The Blue Button API Team
