can't get the Dijango sample client to work?

to Developer Group for CMS Blue Button API

i had to get rid of the redundant "/v1" in the settings. however, now i keep getting

AuthCanceled at /social-auth/complete/oauth2io/

Authentication process canceled?

i tried it on my Linux server, and later installed Ubuntu on my Windows 10. either way i end up with this error? i also tried to add a scope in the settings. i even tried, as many suggested, to set SOCIAL_AUTH_RAISE_EXCEPTIONS = False!
