Based on the CMS BB documentation, we understand that apps fall into one of three data access durations:
10 hours for single time use
13 months for ongoing use
Infinite for research use (pending a review every 2 years)

We see this error occasionally:
"User data access grant expired. To refresh Medicare data, end user must re-authenticate and consent to share their data."

Given we have not hit the 13 month mark, does this mean that the patient manually revoked access via the CMS Portal?

Hi Brendan,

Our documentation on the website is a bit ahead of some announcements we will be making for all our existing prod apps. The 3 data access duration categories are not yet implemented for existing apps. Stay tuned for an announcement coming out about this soon.  We will be providing plenty of time and guidance so that appropriate adjustments can be made to applications.

In terms of the error message - yes, the error you are seeing can be triggered by an enrollee revoking access to an app via the Medicare.gov connected apps dashboard/UI. However, we don’t expect that to be a common occurrence, so we will reach out to you directly via email get more info about this.

Thanks,
