Great news.

This has been bugging my conscience for ages, but due to family ill health, and a major stress 'do the impossible - and by the way the technology is all completely unfamiliar' project,  I haven't hd a chance to look at this.

I'll try my best to make at least one improvement.  But yes its a decent sized unfamiliar code base so will take a bit to work out what does what.
