icreated a playlist from a CD, i created a name for the playlist and then i drug the folder for that CD from the itunes library onto the playlist icon in the left side (music category), and this created a new playlist with the songs that were in that folder on that CD in the iTunes library.
Unfortunately, in creating the playlist, the iTunes program took the order of the songs and rearranged them with no logic that was apparent to me. The order of the songs is important, it's a just released 6 CD box set of Bob Dylan's outakes from the sessions of his Blood on the Tracks album from 1975, and the CDs have all those takes (87 of them) in the chronological order they were recorded, it shows the creative evolution of the songs and musical arrangements. So they aren't supposed to be rearranged according to some alien irrelevant logic.
It took a while to figure out a solution, after the first one failed. The solution was to not drag the folder onto the playlist icon but to drag the songs inside the folder collectively onto the playlist. i don't make a lot of playlists. i have accumulated a lot over a long time but i don't remember how to interpret ambiguities.
I was still in the trial and error stage, i didn't know if it was going to work. It worked, the songs were ordered like they are on the CD. i gave the playlist a different name from what i named the first one. Now i want to delete the first faulty playlist. i don't want to delete the songs from the library, since they're in the new playlist, i just want to delete the playlist (list of songs to play) from iTunes library, not the songs themselves which were uploaded to iTunes library from the CD. i don't see why deleting the playlist would require deleting all those songs from iTunes library. i realize they would still be on my computer, but why delete them from iTunes library?
When i googled this problem, i got a link which said i would have two options, either delete the songs in the playlist from iTunes library only, or delete everything on the playlist from the computer.
Mike_P1, thank you for the response. When I tap Remove From LIbrary, if I had previously downloaded the songs, will this action remove the songs from BOTH the playlist & from the library? I want to remove the songs ONLY from the playlist, but not from the Library. Thank you.
Only the ability to add items to the Cloud Library and editable playlists is currently available in the Apple Music API. Thank you for the feedback, we understand developers would like the ability to work with the library in additional ways using these APIs.
the good news: they do. you can delete albums, though it does it in a weird way, by deleting all the songs from the album one after another by sending a DELETE command to /v1/library/. this doesn't work very well as half the time that endpoint 404's for all the requests and even if it doesn't, the album doesn't disappear. beta software i guess. but none of that matters because of ...
Is there any update on this? I think that reordering playlists and deleting tracks should be an essential feature in the Apple Music API, and that not having these features, severely limits its usability.
If you are interested in this, it would be helpful for you to file a ticket on Feedback Assistant explaining your use-case for DELETE and PUT methods in Apple Music API. Even if others have filed similar tickets, your use-case may be a bit different, and we want to hear about it. And, internally, we use the number of duplicate requests as a signal that helps us prioritize the various things we may want to improve on.
I have my music on a NAS and have my itunes folder on the NAS, when i index the music collection I only have one option now, "reindex" the "rebuild" option seems to have gone. The indexing tries to import my itunes playlists (but fails to recognise the location of the songs) .
The problem is that the playlists remain everytime i reindex and it is getting messy. I have removed my itunes library, removed any xml or m3u files, emptied the trash on the NAS drive and reindexed hoping that all the playlists would go but they remain.
I have what I think is a similar question. Under My Playlists I see those I have created (under Bluos) and several which I haven't (under Library). I had a similar problem in the past and was advised to delete all xml, m3u and 00 files - which I did, yet in a small number of cases the problem persists.
In my experience whne using a NAS, removed playlists may be in the Recycling Bin of your NAS (often named something like $RECYCLE_BIN), and you would empty this bin and Reindex BluOS to remove them from the app.
And if I may ask another question, if I wanted to replace the Vortexbox with e.g. a simple External Hard Drive connected via USB would that work? I think I remember that in the past this was not a recommended solution but I'm wondering if with changes in technology this is now a viable option?
Regarding an external hard drive to the USB port of the Node: its still not a recommended option, though you could connect that external hard drive to your router via USB -- in doing so, you basically turn it into a NAS drive. Share that to the Node and you can use that in place of the vortex box.
