It seems like the common solution for many was to go to Device Manager and uninstall the driver under Monitors, then scan for hardware changes. I did that and it didn't work. If it helps, under my Monitors section it says "Generic PnP Monitor".

If it is a laptop, it will most likely come back if you reinstall manufacturer's management tools software. The are usually full of unwanted stuff, but if you uninstall them, those on screen goodies like screen brightness indicator will go away too.

Press that, then below the display adjustments, press the "change advanced power settings". A little box will appear, and you will find a "change settings that are currently unavailable" button. Press that, and then scroll down until you find display. Click on the plus sign on the left side of it, then click the plus sign of the "Display Brightness". From there you can adjust it to your liking. Hope that helps. Best of luck to all of you,Contributer

I have a windows 10 laptop more than 5 years old. I have been with full brightness for a month or so on the laptop panel. The brightness control disappeared from everywhere (Activity panel, power plan options, screen configuration...) after an S.O. update. I didn't mind too much because I work at a very well lit room and brightness was almost full anyway. What bothers me is that the "night display" function stopped working on the laptop panel, but was still working on the addition monitor, so after dark I work with two monitors at different brightness levels.

The way to restore the brightness control was through the Device Manager. There I saw both monitors (Generic PnP monitor) as "disabled". I enabled both of them and the brightness control reappeared in all the right places.

I cant seem to find the brightness adjuster in my laptop after I reformatted it with windows 7 ROG Rampage(64 bit). My laptop is HP Pavilion dm4-1209tx. I also checked with the HP website and my drivers are all up to date. I also tried installing HP Quick Launch but was unable to do so probably because it is not supported by my OS. I've run out of ideas anymore. Any advice? Thanks!

I've had the same problem once. For me, the trouble maker was TeamViewer's mirror driver. Uninstalling the mirror driver fixed the problem for me and the brightness adjust controls started working again.

If you don't have TeamViewer on your computer, make sure you don't also have similar software (LogMeIn, RealVNC, etc.) that can install a monitor driver. To check if your computer's monitor is using one of these mirror drivers, do the following:

According to the official specifications, the laptop has switchable graphic cards. This means the computer actually got two different graphics cards: Intel HD Graphics and AMD Radeon HD 6370M. The first one is integrated into the CPU and is energy efficient; the second one is discrete (or dedicated) and is more powerful.

The system can let you choose which graphic card to use, while defaulting to the integrated one to prolong battery life. Switchable solutions are based on custom hardware, and require specific drivers provided by manufacturers in order to work as intended.

There are two ways to in-/ decrease the backlight of the display. One is by installing the HP Hotkey drivers, so you can use fn + whatever key it is on your laptop (sometimesF3 and F4, other times arrow up and arrow down.

I can't stand Microsoft flaws. And or driver issues for not getting along with Microsoft. Who knows but I have the same problem the brightness controls completely disappear and the screen defaults to very bright.

In device manager the quickest way I found was to simply disable your display adapters and enable them instantly. This reboots the drivers and brightness control will be back to normal. But for how long that's the problem. Changing drivers and all the mentioning of power settings is absolutely useless and I wish people that haven't experienced a cure for this would stop leading everyone around in circles. That is why I am writing this.

I have not found the cure it's pissing me off.I only found this quick reboot fix because I am a technician but I am not God. Nobody technically will address this problem but I would love to hear from someone who will propose a genuine fix but truthfully I don't think there is one which means the fix I came up with is probably mine and yours best idea.

Adjusting the brightness of your PC can be pretty valuable, especially when you multitask and require different brightness levels for various programs. Also, the change in your surroundings is a good reason to modify the brightness.

This will reveal the brightness slider at the bottom of the Action Center. If the brightness option is still unavailable in Windows 10, you can try the following solutions to get things up and to run.

The brightness option is available in the Settings and the Action Center in Windows 10. To adjust the brightness through the Action Center, press Windows + A, and use the slider to make the necessary modifications.

If you run intro trouble regarding the brightness option on Windows 10, you can bring it back just by reinstalling your display driver or update the old version. See how to proceed with the next steps.

Follow these steps to update your display adapter drivers. This process is the simplest, but we recommend using a professional third-party tool if you want to update all your drivers and fix any related problems automatically.

Applications such as Catalyst Control Center and Nvidia Control Panel allow you to change various options related to your graphics card. Among these options is the ability to adjust your screen brightness.

To fix the problem, you must make a few changes to your power plan settings. After enabling these options, save the changes, and you should be able to adjust your screen brightness again without any issues.

Even desktop users can manually change the brightness using the dedicated buttons. In addition, almost all monitors have configuration buttons next to the power button, and using these; you can easily adjust your screen settings, such as hue, brightness, and contrast.

Here, you could try executing the steps in the previous section, and things should work out in most cases. However, if the problem persists after that, performing a system restore should do the trick.

In case nothing else works, resetting Windows 11 to its factory settings would come to your aid and will fix the problem. Though, you would lose the stored data, installed apps, and configured settings on the PC.

The correct brightness is crucial for proper viewing when working on a PC. Without it, you face problems while watching a movie, playing a game, working on a PC, etc. Below we will explain how to fix the brightness slider missing on Windows 10 and 11.

The mysterious disappearance of the brightness slider surprises many users. For some, it is greyed out, or perhaps the icon is missing. So, why does this happen? A possible explanation is that the option is disabled. To fix it, follow these steps:

1) Fn + F2/F3 doesn't change the brightness at all. Matter of fact, the slider is stuck and can only move one level up and down, all without changing the brightness. I can change the brightness on the right bottom panel and all the other function keys are working fine, but just the brightness function key is not working.

2) A bit more serious problem, but my screen sometimes goes black or super pixel-y, or the screen and the letters just vibrate. When I change the screen to something else or exit out of whatever I am doing, it stops, but then it comes back out of nowhere. I attached an image below.

I believe all these started happening after the windows update. I tried updating the display adapter drivers as well as dis- and enabling the PnP monitor driver, but nothing solved the problems. I haven't tried to do anything regarding the registry or something with command prompt as I am not well informed with these.

My Dell XPS15 is now experiencing this issue. All "in Windows" brightness controls are non-functioning. I can however adjust brightness of display in BIOS (only). dell's answer is reinstall WIndows 11 which is nonsense and major PITA, I need a software update/repair solution quickly please.

I'm having the bright slider issue after the update too, but not the display bug. I'm using an Acer Nitro 5. My main energy plan is bugged with permanent low bright and the others are auto sliding when I try to adjust via keyboard.

Ah and regarding the 2nd problem, I actually don't remember when it even started happening so I don't think I should try the same method on this one. Since it's very seldom and sporadic, maybe I will just take it to a repair shop or something once it becomes more frequent.

The other "fun" part is... while it was installing, the bug came back. But when the pc completely restarted, everything was normal again. So maybe microsoft did a quick fix or the bug has some kind of trigger that I don't know about.

Obviously you will need to install this update again in the future, but I recommend that you wait at least 7 days to install it again, as that is enough time for Microsoft to add a patch along with the update.

When in a heavily lit room or a park, it is easier to see what is on your screen by increasing the brightness. Turning it down, on the other hand, when you are in a dim room, is a good idea for your eyes. There will be no glare that can give you a headache. So, you focus and finish the task you have at hand or even have fun on your PC.

In this post, we will discuss different ways to change screen brightness on your Windows 10 computer. Apart from doing it manually, you can change the settings to allow your OS to automatically make changes. The modifications can be based on your power plan, battery level, or the intensity of ambient light.
