Hello Everyone,

The first meeting is tonight. We have the space from 6PM to 8PM.

The pizza has been ordered. There should be extra if you have not
signed up yet.

Please, try parking in the Opera House parking structure. Hopefully
we will be able to validate parking in future meetings.

The Madison building has Angelina's on the first floor. Enter at the
Broadway entrance. You should see a guard or me or Don Ward. We can
take you up stairs to the 5th floor.

Please, make note of any issues your run into, like directions,
parking, etc..... I'll work on those prior to January's meeting.

if you plan to attend, please register at:

Android Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM) is a service that helps
developers send data from servers to their applications on Android
devices. The service provides a simple, lightweight mechanism that
servers can use to tell mobile applications to contact the server
directly, to fetch updated application or user data. The C2DM service
handles all aspects of queueing of messages and delivery to the
target
application running on the target device.

Chris Risner is a senior software engineer and team leader at Quicken
Loans.
There Chris works on and leads the mobile development team
responsible
for bringing amazingly engineered products to people’s mobile
devices.
After graduating from Western Michigan University intent on making
video games, Chris started working on Java at Quicken. He quickly
transitioned and began to focus on C# and spent the next five years
buried in ASP .Net, MVC, and Smart Clients. Chris recently made the
unexpected switch over to Java, Objective C, Android, and iOS and
hasn’t looked back.

In his spare time, Chris likes to work on simpler things like natural
language processing, brewing beer, reading, and training for
triathlons and marathons. You can read more about Chris’ interests,

Just wanted to thank everyone for having me present and David for
getting things set up. You can access the slides and demos from my
presentation here: http://chrisrisner.com/C2DM-Presentation-a-Success.

Two other quick reminders:
1. Please be sure to check out the Detroit GTUG web site (http://
detroit.gtugs.org) and join the Google Group if you're interested.
2. If you're getting started with Android, or know someone who is,
check out my 31 Days of Android series: http://chrisrisner.com/31-Days-of-Android

One person did ask a question I didn't have an answer to last night.
The question was when does the auth token that your app server needs
to send to the C2DM servers with any messages, expire. This could
expire at any time. When you send a message to C2DM, the response
back can occasionally include a new auth token. You should check for
this and update your auth token to the new one whenever it happens.
You can read more about the update-client-auth response here:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-c2dm/browse_thread/thread/76af0bea6e65213a

As always, if you have any feedback (about the presentation, c2dm, the
Android series, etc) or questions, please let me know.

Chris
