Monday Meeting - STAYING IN SYNC WITH CLOUD TO DEVICE MESSAGING – Chris Risner

Monday. I apologize for that. I'm trying to schedule him for
January.

Chris Risner of Quicken Loans has agreed to do his talk on C2DM.

Android Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM) is a service that helps
developers send data from servers to their applications on Android
devices. The service provides a simple, lightweight mechanism that
servers can use to tell mobile applications to contact the server
directly, to fetch updated application or user data. The C2DM service
handles all aspects of queueing of messages and delivery to the target
application running on the target device.

Chris is a senior software engineer and team leader at Quicken Loans.
There Chris works on and leads the mobile development team responsible
for bringing amazingly engineered products to people’s mobile devices.
After graduating from Western Michigan University intent on making
video games, Chris started working on Java at Quicken. He quickly
transitioned and began to focus on C# and spent the next five years
buried in ASP .Net, MVC, and Smart Clients. Chris recently made the
unexpected switch over to Java, Objective C, Android, and iOS and
hasn’t looked back.

In his spare time, Chris likes to work on simpler things like natural
language processing, brewing beer, reading, and training for

The website of "The Madison" is pretty shiny and picturey, but there's
not a lot of information there, hmmm? IIRC, this is the Madison
Theatre Building, isn't it? Did Quicken Loans finally buy it? Is
Angelina's still downstairs? Okay, okay, I've been living in Lansing,
working in Novi, and not really downtown much for the past six years
or so..seven? Eight? Hrm.

Lessee, the address is the same as the one for StubHub pickup (they're
in suite 101), and their site says:
Location: Northwest Corner of Witherell and Broadway Streets
(for those who don't trust visual map thingies)
Parking: On Street Metered Parking Available. (Well, I guess
the opera house parking structure is close, and they're dark Mondays,
aren't they?:)

Sorry, I thought there was a link to a map up there.

This is the Madison Theater Building and Angelina's is on the first
Floor. StubHub and and this event can be accessed from the Broadway
entrance. There is some metered parking on the street but parking
in the Opera House Structure is probably best. There is a parking
lot next to the Madison on Broadway but that usually fills up with
patrons of the Detroit Beer Company and Small Plates.

Like I say, this is the first meeting here, so it may not be for
everyone.
