RePost from CH in case we get redacted again for subversive group
meeetings.

I stopped at Zayeqa today and spoke to the owner (Nausheen) about some
hoof dishes. She owns a grocery store and cycles them in every week or
so.

Asking about a tasting menu she proposed: Beef hoof and goat hoof
(Paya) and Beef and goat shank in a different preparation (Nichari)
and a very thinly sliced beef round on kebab skewers unique to here
Indian region.

The tentative date is Saturday 21 May and I only have to confirm
people and time 8-9 days in advance. None of their food is wildly
expensive so ???? Credit cards are iffy on my observation. And no
alcohol. (sorry JP).

Any Offal talk with them?

When I brought offal up I got no response just the menu proposed. I
will go back in a week and see what else I can dredge up.

Hoof sounds great, and I should be free on the 21st.

I'm all for a Zayeqa run...but I'm not sure I'm "offal" adventurous.
I'm pretty picky about filters, and thus intestines and entrails don't
exactly enthrall me. It's...kind of a limitation of mine, I guess.

I'm in for this (sorry to have missed the noodle night, it was my
weekend with kids), but would prefer a different date (the 21st is
also my weekend with kids).
But if it is the 21st, I'll make it work.

Okay, I'm in.

PS--Embarrassingly, I don't like offal, either. But, if they serve
it, I'll challenge Boagman to an 'offal Throwdown.' This could get
ugly. And, by Throwdown, I don't mean who can eat the most bites, I
mean who can eat the poopy-est bites.

Mark: It will be difficult to change the date on this one. Sorry. The
place is quite small only 24 seats and we don't necessarily have it
all to ourselves. And because of the wishes and dreads of some of the
players we decided to have it a la carte. Meaning, she will have the
four dishes mentioned available as well as the other elements of a
very extensive sino-pak indian menu. You will order and pay for
yourself and I am assuming everyone will be willing to share a scoop
of their choices as well. The food comes in a foil takeout container
and you spoon it onto the plate with rice or nan bread at your own
direction so it is very easy to share.

As to VTBs inquiry about your kids age if you would take them to this
type of resto on your own I would bring them. He has a pre-k son and
it has been no problem at all (as you will remember from XLB fest).

The target time is 7:00 (6.45 for VTB ;-)) on Saturday. Everyone is
welcome. I am planning on telling her we will likely be 10-12 ppl.

What? What did I do?

Sadly, I will not be able to make it. Sorry chums. I'll try to get a trizest email out tomorrow.

I stopped in today to confirm 10 ppl for 21 May 7pm. We will have
reserved tables so if you get there early that's us. I confirmed we
will each be ordering a la carte and she will mark the containers so
we know what and how the dish is/prepared. The halal butcher does not
carry any offal so only unusual meat on the menu will be goat and beef
hoof.

See you then. Paul

I'm going to try to make this as well. Might have Donna in tow.
Would that be okay?

You are both welcome. As you know it's a tiny place but with a la
carte the no. is flexible. Hope to see you both on Saturday 21 May

Oy...Vince, that's fine, as long as *you* go first.

And, of course, if you don't mind a forfeit. ;)

Unfortunately I am out for the Hoof Fest. I was able to make it over
there last Friday and enjoyed several dishes. I had a Hakka wise
colleague in tow, and his take was the Chili Chicken was saucier than
what they have in Toronto, but quite good nonetheless.

membfer to the Detroit Chow group?? Did you enjoy VTB's noodle fest?
You can sponsor another culture if you like.;)

Goat Golfer,

I was holding out on ya :) Overall we enjoyed Zayeqa, but Chili
Chicken was the only "Chinese" dish that was ordered, and it was
great. The only real comment was that it was saucier than Toronto
versions. My co-worker was in heaven though we he saw the bottle of
Maggi Red Sauce (can't remember if it was the Hot and Sweet, Tomato,
or ...). Apparently it was a condiment of his youth in Brunei. I
took the recommendation of the lady behind the counter and had Beef
Bihari. Good flavor but I couldn't place what cut of beef, the
texture was wide ranging from one piece to the next, and a bit
mineraly. I'll eat nose to tail so no complaint from me if it was a
less "popular" cut, I just couldn't identify exactly what it was.

Noodle fest was great, and I look forward to future outings. I am
afraid I may miss a few though, work is sending me to Northern Italy
for a few weeks, darn :) Any rec's for the Bologna, Ferrara, Modena
areas?

Enjoy Hoof Fest, I look forward to the report!

Work is sending you to Northern Italy for a while, and you want
recommendations? My recommendation is that you trade your life for
mine!
If you're striking out with the girls in Bologna, dress up in your
backpacker gear and head down to the Cinque Terre and troll around in
Vernazza, etc., for a weekend.

Thanks GG. Another fine get together. Good to see you, and it's been
too long since seeing Sir Boagman & Donna. I'm not now a converted
hoof guy, but the sauces were exquisite tonight! Wow, what a good
value. I wish Zayeqa was closer to my home. They are in a tough
market for doing kabobs. But, for stews, it was nothing but top notch
flavors.
