My Proposal:
Book Two Rooms at the Red Roof Inn, enough for 12 people (we're expecting 11).
Reasons- The Red Roof Inn is centrally located blocks within the convention center. We can avoid taking the Metro, which would cost up to 15 dollars for the weekend (we will only need to take it twice, if at all, as transport to and from the Capitol Climate Action/police station). We would save two hours per day that would otherwise be spent commuting between the far flung hotel and the convention center. More time to spend at Power Shift and meeting people and organizing and having fun!
- We will be spending night in the same hotel as many other Power Shifters, and be in close proximity to other hotels with Power Shifters, and close to many night-time parties and activities. Perfect location for organizing!!!
- There is showers. There will be beds for four people a room, and we can request cots so everyone has a bed to sleep on.
- We have enough money to cover the costs, and can ask as low as $35 per person, and most everyone going has agreed $50 or more. So long as we agree to use some of SEAC's money to cover the costs (we have $495). I think this is very well worth it because how much more convenient the hotel will be as opposed to a far off location.
the math...
Hotel Costs = $139 per room
$417 = 1 room for 3 nights
$834 = 2 rooms for 3 nights
Ask $50 per person (Have half of SEAC's money left over)
$550 = 11 people paying $50; $834-550=SEAC pays $284
500 = 10 people paying 50; 834-500=SEAC pays 334
Ask $35 per person (use most of SEAC's money)
$385 = 11 people paying $35;834-285=SEAC pays $449
$350 = 10 people paying $35; 834-350=SEAC pays $484
So even if not everyone can pay $50, we can still cover the costs!
Here is who I expect to be rooming with us as of now (12 people)
Aric Miller
Mike Shallal
Lauren Burnett
Katie Gail Nolde
Kim Siegal
Ayodejy Akinpelu
Karen Liebowitz
Lindsey Snoes
Amanda Milke
Chad Dougherty
Jeanette Binkowski
Devin Holland
That's all for now. What do people think of this idea??? If no one responds before noon tomorrow, I'll assume we can go ahead and book the two rooms.
