The people who do Poultry Days (Not to mention College Nationals and the US Open in the past couple of years) are looking to start a Tournament in Sarasota. Details below. If you are interested you can contact Rodger directly at osha...@gmail.com

Happy Holidays to everyone. It's a wonderful time of the year, and the weather in the Midwest is making me dream of chasing plastic again.

I also wanted to give you all the first crack at a new tournament we're starting in October of 2016. Last year was a great experience for us helping to run tournaments at nearly every level...from high school tournaments to Poultry Days and the USAU US Open and Elite Select Challenge. All of these tournaments have their own rewards, but we want to stay focused on providing tournaments that the players truly enjoy and look forward to.

In my playing days, the ultimate goal, competitively speaking, was to make it to Sarasota for Halloween weekend. Even it we didn't have much chance of winning the Club Championships, being in Sarasota and Siesta Key was a great reward at the end of a season. I'm sure most of you know that USAU has made a priority of moving the Club Championships earlier in the season and to different locations. Although there may be many benefits to that, we feel that leaves our season too short...and certainly drops the reward of a beach vacation.

Well, instead of leaving those beautiful fields empty, we've contracted with the Sarasota County Sports Commission and the Sarasota Polo Club to host the first Sarasota Sunset Tournament October 28-29, 2016. That will be a Friday and Saturday tournament allowing plenty of time for festivities Saturday night and flights home Sunday.

In our vision, Sarasota Sunset will be the tournament that brings our entire community together. Our target number of teams will be 64, with a minimum of 48 and a max of 96. We will open the initial bid to 8 separate divisions: Open, Mixed, Womens, Masters Open, Masters Women, Grandmasters, College Open, and College Women. We will look for an 8 team minimum in each division to make that happen.

There are some great tournaments around the world that showcase the best of our ultimate community. We want to continue to grow our sport and provide more opportunities for all of our players to enjoy this game. There's no community like the Ultimate community. We hope you'll choose to begin your season with us in Versailles, and end it in Sarasota.

If you want more details, have questions, or would like to submit a bid for the Sarasota Sunset...please email me back. Thank you for everything you do for Ultimate.

Sincerely,
Rodger Oakes
