66% of the Tigers' picks in this year's draft are pitchers. 62% of their picks were college players.
The average height of the pitchers they drafted is probably somewhere around 6'6".
Tigers drafted 14 pitchers, 4 shortstops, 2 outfielders and 1 catcher.
The Tigers also signed undrafted free agent righty pitcher Shay Timmer from Salt Lake City Junior College. Timmer is 6'10", 290 lbs. and throws in the upper 90s. The fact that he's that tall and throws 99-mph but was undrafted probably indicates he has no
idea where his pitches are going most of the time What heck, he'll be a good project for the Tigers' pitching BrainTrust.
A couple of the Tigers' later-round picks are likely not to sign and go to college instead, including 18-year-old 16th-round pick RHP Anson Seibert from Kansas. Seibert is 6'8", 235 lbs.
Seibert was considered a possible future 1st-round pick but struggled with an arm injury and inconsistency this year. He has committed to Tennessee and the Tigers might not have enough bonus money left to convince him to become a pro. If he decides to sign
with the Tigers he's a potential steal.
They also drafted lefty-hitting high-school SS Jude Warwick from Illinois in the 12th round. Warwick had committed to Michigan State but decided to sign with the Tigers instead.
It's fun to follow the draft but the fact is that most of these young guys won't make it. I hope they are wise with their bonus money.
Our farm system is full of higher-round draft picks who have never developed.
