The Tigers have some players in the World Baseball Classic, including both major-leaguers and minor-leaguers.

Tarik Skubal pitched for the United States.  Will Vest is one of the reserves whom the U.S. team may call up for the next round.

Gleyber Torres and Keider Montero are playing for Venezuela's team.

Jahmai Jones is on the team for South Korea.

The best-known Tigers prospect in the World Baseball Classic is Hao Yu Lee.  He is with the Chinese Taipei team.

Other Tigers minor-leaguers on World Baseball Classic teams are Enmanuel De Jesus on the Venezuelan team, Wu-Suk Go on the South Korean team, Duque Hebbert on the Nicaraguan team, Kenley Jansen on the team for the Netherlands, and Carlos Lequerica on the team representing Israel.

Thanks for the rundown Steve. One correction: Jansen is definitely not a minor leaguer! :-)

Lee has an oblique strain and probably won't play in the WBC.  Too bad. 🙁

What's Kenley Jansen's connection to The Netherlands?   He was born in former Dutch colonial island Curacao (technically they are still part of the Netherlands kingdom for what it's worth).  Curacao has produced several major leaguers, including recently elected HOF member OF Andruw Jones and ex-Tiger Jonathan Schoop.    Other ex-Tiger players from Curacao were righty pitcher Jair Jurrjens (who was pretty good before injuries wrecked his career) and 1B-DH Randall Simon.  Curacaon players have cool names.
