Jones only had 4 plate appearances total in post-season last year. He was 2-4 with a double and 2 walks for a .750 OBA.
He hit well in very limited opportunities.
Hinch mysteriously stopped using Jones as frequently as he did during the regular season. It was weird.
It was something about Hinch being afraid of using Jones in the outfield that limited his playing time in post-season.
I thought it was ridiculous that Jones never got a single plate appearance in the 15-inning deciding game vs. Seattle. He was a hot hitter and Hinch sat him on the bench when the Tigers kept missing scoring opportunities in that game.
The strikeout I remember where Jones got hosed by the umpire was in his lone at-bat in the Cleveland series.
Hinch pinch hit Jones for Riley Greene against lefty reliever Tim Herrin with 1 out in the top of the 7th of game 2 when the game was tied 1-1 and the Tigers had 2 runners on base. Jones struck out swinging on a 3-2 pitch, but the ump missed ball
4 on the previous pitch. The Tigers would have had the bases-loaded and 1 out if Jones walked. Wenceel Perez then struck out swinging on 3 straight pitches to leave the runners stranded and the Tigers went on to lose 6-1 after giving up 5 runs in the 8th when
Troy Melton melted down.
