I think we should go all in on Bichette and move Javier Baez to Centerfield. Use Meadows and one of the kids as a trade chip to get a right fielder and a reliever.

I'm not against acquiring Bichette, but his defense at SS is pretty bad. He likely profiles as a 2B at this point and we already have several of those.

I'll let others on the list weigh in on whether Bichette's D is that bad that it would offset the improved offense he'd provide. ;)

The Nationals are supposedly open for business on young starter Mackenzie Gore and SS CJ Abrams. Both would fit on the Tigers IMO but Abrams D is also subpar. I imagine a theoretical deal for both of them would include the likes of Rainer, Briceno, and Melton at least, assuming that McGonigle and Clark would be off the table.

I agree Meadows could be part of a package deal (maybe a theoretical one like the proposal above), but I wouldn't mind keeping him as a 5th OF/defensive replacement. Maybe He comes into the game late and Baez moves to SS for defense in those situations.

As for acquiring a RF, are you proposing that Carpenter would then be a full time DH? What do you do with Vierling and Perez (not that they're that great but they presumably have to play somewhere if they're going to still be on the team)?

Bichette had never played 2B in the majors until the playoffs this year.  He played 30 games at 2B in the minors years ago. He's never played 3B in the majors or minors so I assume nobody is considering him as a 3B.  He's been a SS or DH for the majority of his major league and minor league career.

What are his defensive weaknesses at SS?  Does he have a weak arm?  Slow reactions times?  Poor on the double play?
Is his defense fixable at SS?

I like Bichette as a righty hitter, but I don't see a fit for him with the Tigers given the Tigers just re-signed Torres to play 2B.
The Tigers place heavy value on defense at SS so I doubt they would go with a weak defensive SS like Bichette even if he hits well.
(The Tigers don't even seem to want McGonigle to play SS so no way would they want Bichette to play SS).

Baez hits lefties ok so I supposed he could platoon in CF with Meadows, who hits righties better than lefties.

But if Baez plays CF then who plays SS?  McKinstry?  Sweeney?

I think the Tigers should try to find a righty hitting utility guy who can play an adequate shortstop.
Maybe somebody like Ha-Seong Kim, who is a free agent.

With the re-signing of Torres… Still two years left on Javy’s contract…Vierling & McKinstry still on the roster…Keith bouncing around the infield…and McGonigle on the way, I don’t see the Tigers going after Bichette.

Not that he wouldn’t be a good signing of course… But given above, and the fact I haven’t seen one article that even hints at the Tigers having interest in Bo, I don’t think it’s going to happen.
