In the bottom of the eighth, Max Clark walked, went to second on a ground out, made it to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch.
Justin Verlander gave up three hits, including the solo home run by Bryan Ramos in the fifth. He struck out six in 4 2/3 innings.
21-year-old lefty Jorger Petri walked a batter before getting the last out of the fifth inning.
Kanley Jansen gave up one hit and one walk but no runs in the sixth. He struck out one.
Burch Smith gave up two hits but no runs and no walks in the seventh. He struck out two.
Ricky Vanasco pitched a perfect inning in the eighth, with one strikeout.
