Tigers finally score a run in a 0-0 battle in the bottom of the 7th and took a 1-0 lead to the 9th.

It could possibly have been a bigger lead but Hinch had Jake Rogers attempt to bunt with two runners on & no one out in the 8th. Rogers squares to bunt about an hour and a half before the pitcher throws it. Whatever happened to guys at least trying to disguise it a little bit? Anyway, one inept attempt, and then Cleveland changes their D and picks off McKinstry at second. Sigh. Rogers then strikes out and kills the rally.

Cleveland squeaks out a run against Will Vest to tie it in the 9th and then the Tigers get the first two runners on with no one out Setting up a Setting up a potential walk off but cannot convert. A particularly bad at bat from Perez (who should not have been pinch-hitting in the first place) ended the inning. I just cannot stand even watching Wenceel (attempt to) hit.

As we head to extra innings, I have no doubt Cleveland will annoyingly squeak out another one run victory. Frustrating!

Yep. Tigers lose 3-2 in 10.

They lead the majors with 22 outs on the bases.

The tailspin continues.

This team has a hard enough time getting scoring opportunities, so to be thrown out on the bases that many times is just shooting themselves in the foot.

At least Anderson had a nice start tonight and Finnegan/Hurter/Jansen kept the Guardians in check.

Keith was 0-5 from the leadoff spot tonight and his OPS is down to .658.  Keith's lack of development as a hitter is very concerning.

Workman was 0-3 and is now at .185.  He turned back into a pumpkin very quickly.

McGonigle with 2 walks but no hits again.   Opposing pitchers probably don't give him much to hit so he either takes a walk or tries to hit something that isn't that hittable.

Tork didn't even start and had a pathetic pinch-hit appearance in the 10th where he popped out with a runner at 1st and 1 out.

We might be close to repurposing Michael W‘s recent “Tork is a bust” post and applying it to Keith.

Always have to preface the Keith discussions by noting that he is still only 24 (25 this August) but he now has 1171 plate appearances in the majors and sports a career .707 OPS with 26 HR’s.

No idea why but Akil Baddoo just popped into my head so I looked him up. His career numbers:
1143 PA’s.  A career .674 OPS with 28 HR’s. Though he is the ripe old age of 27.

I’m guessing Tigers management didn’t give Keith that huge contract before his ML first bat just so he could put up numbers like Akil Baddoo :-)

Well it is a good thing we revamped the bullpen and spent a ton of money there. Imagine where we’d be if we hadn’t done that and spent money on hitters instead?
