The Tigers are calling up 24-year-old lefty reliever Drew Sommers from Toledo.  No word yet on who is being removed from the active roster and 40-man roster to make room.
Sommers has a 3.31 ERA in 27 appearances for Toledo with 41 Ks and 14 walks in 32.2 IP.
He had a 1.48 ERA in 15 appearances for AA Erie with 22 Ks and 2 walks in 24.1 IP.

Sommers was originally an 11th-round pick by Tampa Bay in 2022.  The Tigers traded righty pitcher Mason Englert to the Rays for Sommers this past offseason.

Lefties Brant Hurter and Bailey Horn were recently demoted to Toledo but they can't be recalled for a minimum of 15 days.  The Tigers want another lefty in the bullpen for the upcoming series with Kansas City so they've called up Sommers.

Gotta hope it’s Montero who loses his spot.  I’d hate to keep him over any of the other 39 guys.

It’s not Montero… But I doubt many on the list will be disappointed with who it is leaving the 40 man roster.

Alex Lange optioned to Triple-A Toledo to open a spot for Sommers on the 26-man roster.
- Ryan Kreidler designated for assignment to open a spot for Sommers on the 40-man roster

I thought it might be Kahnle. I think he might be DFA’d when Cobb or Urquidy are activated.

Lefty PJ Poulin pitched well tonight for the Nationals in their 5-4 win over the Phillies.  He pitched the last 2 innings, retiring all 6 batters, including Schwarber, Turner and Castellanos, with 3 Ks.  He has a 1.80 ERA in 10 appearances with the Nationals.

Not sure why the Tigers dumped Poulin for Dietrich Enns.  Poulin might have been helpful in the Tigers' bullpen.

Kahnle has a 15.00 ERA since July 1.  Ouch!

Whatever voodoo he had working with his change-up has gone completely "poof"!

Kahnle's become Detroit's version of "Where's Waldo?" Or Jason Foley in last year's ALDS.

Ok, I’m at peace with that.  Kreidler won’t be missed.

Lange was a victim of still having a minor league option left.  It was the same with Hanifee a couple of weeks ago.  The Tigers wanted some lefties in the bullpen for a particular series so righties like Hanifee and Lange were the logical choice to send down because they still had options.

MLB Trade Rumors is reporting via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Kreidler has been claimed by the Pirates.

I lived in Pittsburgh for many years, and that is a sad franchise.  Kreidler will help them about as much as Kodi Clemens is helping the Twins.  But without having his HoF dad to hand around the locker room.

A poor man's Don Kelly.  Maybe Kreidler can become a manager.

Clemens actually has 14 home runs In 254 AB’s and a .715 OPS. I think considerably better than he has hit in any other season.

Yep, .715 OPS is about what you’d expect for Clemens’ peak season.  Kreidler will probably peak around that too, if he sticks around.
