Tigers flog Phillies

The Tigers continued scoring a good bit.  On Monday, they beat the Phillies, 13-6.

After setting down the Phillies in order in the top of the first, the Tigers came to bat in the bottom of the first.
    Jahmai Jones flew out,
    Kerry Carpenter walked,
    Riley Greene singled,
    Spencer Torkelson doubled to drive in Mr. Carpenter,
    Colt Keith singled to drive in Mr. Greene,
    Kevin McGonigle homered to drive in Mr. Torkelson and Mr. Keith,
    Jake Rogers popped out,
    Jace Jung singled,
    Parker Meadows walked,
    Jahmai Jones singled to drive in Mr. Jung and Mr. Meadows,
    and Kerry Carpenter struck out to end the inning.
The Tigers scored seven runs in the first inning.

In the top of the second inning, Garrett Stubbs walked, Bryan De La Cruz singled, and Felix Reyes homered to drive in Mr. Stubbs and Mr. De La Cruz.

Spencer Torkelson hit a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the second inning.  That gave the Tigers an 8-3 lead.

In the bottom of the third,
    Jake Rogers walked,
    Jace Jung walked
    Parker Meadows walked to load the bases,
    and Jahmai Jones doubled to drive in Mr. Rogers, Mr. Jung, and Mr. Meadows.
 The Tigers had an 11-3 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kerry Carpenter was safe on a fielding error by centerfielder Justin Crawford, Riley Greene singled, Spencer Torkelson was hit by a pitch, and Kevin McGonigle drew a walk with two outs to drive in Mr. Carpenter.

In the top of the sixth, Justin Crawford singled, Edmundo Sosa singled, and Otto Kemp homered, cutting the Tigers' lead to 12-6.

In the bottom of the eighth, Tomas Nido walked, Jace Jung was safe on a force out of Mr. Nido at second base, Samuel Gil pinch-ran for Mr. Jung, Parker Meadows doubled, Roberto Campos pinch-ran for Mr. Meadows, and Mr. Gil scored on a ground out by Wenceel Perez.

Jack Flaherty started for the Tigers.  He was charged with five runs, all earned, on five hits, including a three-run homer in the second inning.  He walked one, and he struck out three in five innings.

Brenan Hanifee gave up one hit, a three-run homer, in the sixth.  The homer allowed two inherited runners to score.  He walked none, and he struck out none.

Tanner Rainey gave up two hits but no runs and no walks in the seventh.

Brant Hurter pitched a perfect inning in the eighth.

Jack Little walked one but allowed no runs and no hits in the ninth.  He struck out two.

Tomorrow, the Tigers will host the Orioles.  Chris Bassitt will start for the Orioles, and Justin Verlander will take the mound for the Tigers.
