Jason Beck:

Tigers and 3B coach Joey Cora have mutually agreed to part ways effective immediately, A.J. Hinch announced. Billy Boyer will take over as 3B coach for rest of season.

Decision was entirely baseball related, Hinch said

Joey’s judgment  waiving runners home has always been questionable.

I'd thought that if the Tigers fired Hinch, they'd make Cora interim manager, and Cora would hire his brother Alex to fill the coaching vacancy. Now both Cora brothers are out of work.

This seems like the old Emo Phillips joke about religion (if you don’t know it, look it up on YouTube).  Hinch and Cora clearly agree on aggressive base running (the main 3rd base coach issue) and a lot of other baseball things, but they found some detail they just couldn’t reconcile.  I’ve been there; there’s nothing harder to bridge than two zealots disagreeing on details of canon.

There was a recent game where Riley Greene was sent home by Cora and he was easily thrown out.   If you watch the replay there's no way Greene should have been sent home.  I'm guessing there were too many of these types of plays with Cora.  However, Hinch does preach an aggressive baserunning philosophy so on the surface it seems kind of unfair to Cora if he got fired for aggressively sending runners home.

Cora also coaches the infielders.  Maybe he took some blame for some of the team's infield defensive blunders.
