The rookie league Tigers finally won a game, after starting 0 and 7.  Still, I think they should be fun this year (more than the rest of the system).  The 2024 cohort, now 19, with Christian Perez and Ronald Ramirez are off to a great start.  The 2025 cohort with Chris Rodriguez and Angel de Los Santos, are 18 now.  It’s super tough to make the adjustment to a new country and tougher competition at that age, but I’ve got a good feeling about Rodriguez in particular.  All four guys had XBH this morning in the win.

Fingers crossed for our future!

Where is last year’s comp round pick, catcher Michael Oliveto?

Found it: Oliveto is on the 60-day IL with Lakeland.  He broke his left big toe in spring training.  Ouch.

While the Major League Tigers are flailing around, I think the FCL team is going to be a lot more fun to watch.  The Tiger cubs won 11-8 today, as the four players I mentioned combined for 7 hits with 3 homers, a triple, and a steal.

De Los Santos was off to a dreadful start, but in the last 4 games he's had 2 doubles, a triple, a homer and a steal.  Ramirez is 10-for-21 with 4 XBH and 4 SB.   Perez has >1.000 OPS and Rodriguez just hit his second homer.

Rodriguez has huge power for his age.  He only turned 18 in January, and he's already hit 12 homers (26 XBH) in 206 professional AB.

Pretty much as soon as I wrote this Ramirez got hurt and hasn’t played since. He was hitting .450.  We can’t have nice things.

Still, these guys are a lot more fun than the major league Tigers.  You heard it here first:  Angel de Los Santos is the most exciting prospect in the system right now.

Ronald Ramirez finally is back.  He went 2-for-2 in his return.  He was lifted after that - hopefully not reinjured!

While the major league Tigers struggled in Houston tonight, the complex league team banged out 17 hits, 9 for extra bases, with 5 walks.  They won 15-2.  All the guys I mentioned had strong games, led by Perez who hit a double and a home run.  There is some talent here, for sure.  I hope  we see some promotions soon. Lakeland can use the help.

Ramirez did play today, so apparently he wasn’t reinjured yesterday.

It's been super fun following the Florida Complex League Tigers, as they have been hitting lights out.  We have to temper our enthusiasm a bit because the league as a whole is hitting like crazy - almost 100pts of OPS higher than last season (.772 vs. .680).  Still, it looks they have 4 genuine prospects (De Los Santos, Perez, Rodriguez, and Ramirez) and several other guys worth keeping an eye on (Orozco, Quinonez, and Colon).

I can't remember ever having so many good-looking prospects in the domestic rookie league, ever, and certainly not so many so young.  The league's spike in hitting doesn't change the fact that we have six 18 and 19 year-olds out-hitting the league average.  That is very good.

My memory turns out to be pretty good.  If use as our criteria: players at the domestic rookie league, at age 19 or younger, with an OPS of .815 or higher, then:
- This year we have 6 such players.
- In the prior 20 seasons we've only had 23 total such players.
- We've never had as many as 4 on the same team before.
- We have had 3 on the same team only twice:
2018 with Wenceel Perez, Parker Meadows and Jose King, and
2023 with Josue Briceno, Max Clark and Clayton Campbell.

So, don’t fire Scott Harris? :-)

And several of them are righty hitters so the Tigers might not turn them into platoon players.

Ha ha!  Plenty of reasons to fire Harris.  Maybe he should just be a scouting/player development guy and not a POBO/GM.
