The Tigers today placed infielder Zach McKinstry on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 16) with left hip/abdominal inflammation. Infielder Hao-Yu Lee has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo.

Lee, who will wear uniform number 50, joins the first major league roster of his career.

Apparently, yes. He's starting at third base, batting eighth ahead of Javy Baez. Jahmai Jones is the DH and batting third. Keith is on the bench against Ranger Suarez..

I'm good with Lee getting his first ML start, but put Keith at DH instead of Jones, even against the tough lefty Suarez. He's hitting over .300 and got the winning hit yesterday!

At least we're almost sure to see him later in the game.

Or perhaps not. Suarez goes eight and then the Sox bring in Chapman for the 9th. Tigers got two hits and a walk off the latter but Baez was caught stealing in the middle of that and they couldn’t score. 

Credit to Jahmai Jones with two hits tonight off two tough lefties. 

0-0 going to the 10th.

Don't like Greene sitting against Suarez.  Greene is actually hitting lefties ok this year (small sample-size obviously) with 3 hits and 4 walks in 15 plate appearances vs. lefties, plus he's been red hot with the bat.  

Losing 1-0 in 10 innings is frustrating.  Our offense isn't looking good against lefties especially since Keith, Carp (and Greene tonight) sit against lefties.  It doesn't help that Tork continues to have a power outage.
Lee isn't going to help.  He can't hit a breaking ball.

Terrible at-bat by Wenceel Perez with Dingler at 3B and 1 out in the top of the 10th.  He struck out on a change-up almost in the dirt.  On the previous pitch he got a 95-mph fastball right down the middle but was late on it and fouled it off.  Perez has been pretty bad since being called up.  Yes, he hit the clutch homer the other day, but his other at-bats have been pretty bad.

And, of course, Tork left Dingler stranded to end the top of the 10th.  Tork got a hittable sinker in the zone and hit it hard but hit it into the ground
to the shortstop Story for a 6-3 groundout.

Another good outing from Mize tonight.  He's looked good this season (I ignore his bad start in the freezing cold in Minnesota).

Skubal vs. the righty Bello on Saturday.  At least we'll have our lefty hitters in the lineup.

Carpenter and Keith never made appearances in the top of the 10th against a righty reliever.
Head-scratching.

Lee has had dramatic platoon splits in the high minors.  He might be a good fit for the AJ Hinch “you only play half the time” system.

Lee also had a ragged game defensively, at least late. His throwing error allowed the potential winning run to get on base in the 9th but Vest got out of it. Then in the 10th Vest threw a WP but Dingler made a good throw to third which Lee dropped. No guarantee, but it's possible had he held on that a swipe tag would have been just in time to get the runner, who of course scored the winning run a few batters later.

Whole different ballgame today with the Tigers against a righty.  The lefties Carpenter, Keith, and Greene were a combined 3-8 with a homer and 3 walks.

Tigers win 4-1.  Good work from Skubal, Holton and Jansen. 

No comment about Tork.  Maybe Keith should just be the full-time 1B against righties?

Hao-Yu Lee is not ready for prime time. Nice story about his family coming to see him, but he can't hit a major league breaking ball or change-up.
